It seems that LH really want to break up BMI and BA are after the slots (not surprisingly)

Willie Walsh, chief executive of International Airlines Group (IAG), the holding company for BA and Iberia of Spain, has made no secret of his interest in BMI, not as an airline but for its valuable take off and landing slots at overcrowded Heathrow.

BMI has 11pc of the airport's capacity – valued at £770m three years ago – while BA controls 42pc and Iberia 2pc.

I didn't realise that IAG were also interested in getting TAP

IAG is not interested in bidding for all of BMI – it is already considering an offer for TAP, the Portuguese airline – but is ready to negotiate. An IAG official said: "He has made it very clear we are interested in BMI in terms of slots. The ball is now in Lufthansa's court."

I saw something else recently where the Portuguese were trying to pimp TAP to LH, probably plucking for a formal offer from IAG. But then there's always the persistent rumor of IAG buying EI as well.
IAG has made it known that they have a list of potential acquisitions, but just who is on that list is a secret.
