BA seat selection fee non refundable

Hello all as this is my first post.

A cautionary tale for those paying for seat selection on British Airways. If you cancel there's no refund...

If you want to do seat selection on BA greater than 7 days out from flight you have to pay, on this occasion AU$152 for J, Hong Kong to Heathrow (I think it was 85 pounds at the time). Worth mentioning that seat selection on the same trip in J for the Cathay & Qantas legs was free.

Having flown J in BA before I like to choose because there are quite a few "bad" seats in their weird business class set-up. (Sorry if that sounds more than a little elitist, but if you're gunna go J you need to be happy right

Anyway, had to cancel this trip so I got what I deserve....no refund!!

BA is amazing in charging so much for seating for non status pax - and I agree that their configuration is such that you definitely want to have a choice. But they've been doing it for years and getting away with it!

Not uncommon for a seat selection fee to be non-refundable - QF is the same.

Have managed to avoid BA J so far, purely due to their awful seat plan. I've done them in F travelling with other half and the in-laws ( in their mid/late 70's), There is no way the in laws could have navigated in and out of those J seats, they're a tad too frail these days.

Not elitist at all, there are some shockers in Club World, and only a handful of "decent" seats at best. As a OWE I quite like BA's policy because I get a better chance of snagging a decent seat on a latish booking.

BA certainly appears to be gouging every last penny out of its pax at the moment though.

Lol that is absolutely correct - had no choice!!!

Most of the hosties (ooops I bet that will raise the odd eyebrow) I've experienced on BA are difficult at best . That carefully crafted look of disdain as a pax dares to make a request makes you want to book BA again & again....
The poms really do not like having to 'serve' anyone - the class wars are alive & well in old blighty (ps I'm allowed to bash the poms cos I'm 3/4 one myself)
