Just got an email from BA Exec Club asking me to complete a survey.

Apart from wanting to know why I signed up (presumably because I'm in Australia), they wanted to know how often I would want to fly from Asian destinations to Sydney.

Last question was along the lines of : BA is

a) my preferred airline
b) not my first pref but I'm happy to fly it
c) I'll fly BA if I really have to
d) I'd avoid it at all costs

Or something like that;)

I got the same thing late last night. I wonder what the ramifications of selecting option d will be?

Hmmm. BA vindictive?

Interesting given that the speculation on teh BA board on FT is that BA will cease Oz flights next year. That would be a shame for me as I am moving mor etowards BA as the new product gets rolled out.

But it won't be too long until we see QF coloured A380s flying to Europe, so that may influence both BA's decision to continue operations to Australia and your decision of product selection.

With QF adding premium economy and capacity to the route maybe they are worried they will loose market share, but with BA selling a lot of local operations and concentrating on international it seems a little strange.

I like the BA flights to AU and use them for WT+ when i can get it. Would be sad to see them go.

As much as it may seem crazy to say from the AU perspective but the competition helps keep prices low. (Ex SIN it has an effect for sure, ex AU not sure sure it has so much effect)

From what I understand from the JSA (Joint service agreement) QF has with BA all revenue on AUST-UK via SIN and BKK is shared.
As for will BA pull out. From their perspective they have a long wait for new aircraft and a trip to the end of the earth that AU is takes up a lot of plane time. They have growing competitive issues ex UK/EU to the US where they make most of their profit >both from the new low cost all business airlines like EOS but also the opening up of EU to US markets mean there are more opportunities to make multiple shorthaul INT flights(by our standards anyway)
than send an aircraft to OZ.
From my perspective I havent travelled on their new product but did travel F on a 777 Sin/SYD this week and expcept that is is a flat bed the rest of the product was inferior to QF J class IMO .As for Aust UK comp with the growth of EK /Ethiad and Qatar and more cap from asian carriers it looks like its easy to just codeshare on QF and defend their home turf. I think other posters are right though they may wait til QF has all ops in A380s before pulling thePIN

But how is it shared? Is it based on proportion of seats operated by each carrier? If so, BA has taken is significant cut in the last year or so when they dropped MEL and reduced one SYD 744 to a 772. If QF pick up the majority of capacity dropped by BA, then that is god news for QF.

I don't believe BA intends to drop any LHR-Asia capacity. In fact they may be planning to increase it. But I would not be surprised to see them from the remaining Asia-SYD.

I received two

... perhaps they value my opinion doubly, or perhaps semi-ly. :p

'Tis interesting the email appears to be from "British Airways Executive Club".

I hope the QF Premium Economy product is up and running before BA leaves, if those rumours are to be believed. Given all the extra niceties I doubt the fare will be as low as BA's T fares though. Still, good to have some choice out of Australia so I hope they do stay.

Interesting - remember how BA used to trumpet themselves as "The World's Airline" (or something along those lines!)

Keen to look at it from a geo-political point-of-view (which should NOT be considered in the operations/planning department, but may well be looked at in the boardroom, where they consider political decisions).

Australia and the UK have always had very strong ties, and if BA pulls out of Australia entirely, that will leave VS as the only UK carrier flying to Australia. This could be a marketting coup for Sir Beard, if it was to eventuate, and I am sure that VS would use it to their advantage.

"The only truely British airline flying to Australia" would be heard everywhere the next time England toured here to lose The Ashes.

(Sorry, prone to slight exaggeration here - about the need for a British carrier, not about England losing The Ashes, yet again).

I'm sorry, I just don't see it happening. The economics justify it, but the marketting department, as well as the board (considering political issues) won't allow it.

"British Airways - The World's Favourite Airline" was how they advertised until they stopped being in a position to use that claim. Nothing to do with being an airline to all locations

I would be surprised if BA continued flying to Australia tbh given the cost of fares to Australia in relation to the length of time taken for the trip and that they'll leave the Asia - Sydney market. They have already reduced their capacity on the LHR-SIN-SYD run by moving to a 777

I thought Virgin Atlantic had Singapore ownership LOL... They could modify it to the 'MOST' British carrier or only 'British/Asian' carrier to fly to Australia!! :p

I know I'm reviving ana old thread, but it does relate.

Received an email from BA: "Join the Executive Club and enjoy ...<special offer follows>

Dear Mr Tooner,
As someone who flies from time to time, you could be enjoying the extra benefits that being a member of the Executive Club will bring you.

Terms and conditions
1. This offer is only open to selected registered members of British Airways to whom this offer has been individually addressed and who have their preferred mailing address registered in the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific who receive the offer via email.

Funny, I thought AP Exec Club members were punted to QFF and told not to come back:rolleyes:

Anyone else get the email?

I got the email to my "Singapore" registered BA web account (I have one for Singapore, and a few others for other countries of interest in SE Asia and use them to get emailed specials available ex-SE Asia).

None of my other accounts were targetted.

It's a nice promo, the one I received was "Duty Free voucher" incentives to fly BA on a round trip to the UK from Asia, with increasing amounts of voucher based on cabin.

Nothing I can use tho.

I'm in the same boat - nice offer, not likely to use it. Not sure if there is any other benefit in joining. I'll have enough trouble retaining WP this year as it is!

Got the offer - based on a SIN-LHR-YYZ WT+ flight last year I suspect

If I could work up to finding a European address I might just consider
BA Silver would be more useful than QF Gold I suspect..... unless I can find the time and money to reach EXP again.....

Happy wandering

Fred
