BA new first class cabins to OZ by Mar 2012

Some might say about time, especially given the lack of options ex HKG and BKK:

All British Airways aircraft flying to and from Australia will feature the airline’s new First Class cabin by March 2012.

The airline is now finalising installation of the new First Class cabins on its fleet of Boeing 747-400s, which will become BA’s dedicated aircraft type in this market. The new cabin is already offered on the Boeing 777 fleet.

Created at a cost of GBP100 million, the new First Class "is inspired by premium British automotive brands," says BA, "creating an exclusive experience based on classic design and understated luxury".

The airline’s Coat of Arms, with the motto 'To Fly To Serve', is a core feature, and the 1920s pioneering era of luxury travel is captured through motifs such as Cyril Kenneth Bird’s ‘Care in the Air’ character..................

Great news - the New First cabin is a huge leap ahead of what QF is offering on their 747s (especially seeing as they are removing First altogether from those aircraft), to me the BA layout is far more suitable for a couple or family travelling in First than QF's A380, and the New First bassinet arrangement is the best I've come across.

With the LHR-HKG flights making use of T5 (for easier inwards connections and the Concorde room on the way home) this is probably the final reason to switch my UK flights from QF via SIN over to CX to HKG then BA to LHR.
