I'm planning some DONE4 travel and on the LAX-LHR leg have the opportunity to either travel on AA and burn some AA miles on an upgrade to First or just fly BA J.

Two questions:

1. Anyone flown AA Flagship First and BA J and can provide a comparison?

2. When booking a DONE4 thru the AA RTW desk can an upgrade be confirmed at time of booking (I do not want to travel AA J)?

well... AA First is still First Class. BA J is just business class.

AA has a wider bed. No-one to step over you. Will get faster service. Generous meal sizes.

BA J - ying-yang seating. Smaller serves. Choice of dessert OR cheese OR fruit. Meh. And dormitory beds.

If I had spare miles I'd take AA first without question.

If I was trying to SAVE miles I'd take BA as it does the same thing (flat bed), just without any of the fan fare of First.

As long as there is A class availability then the upgrade can be confirmed there and then

AA F is much nicer than BA J .

My experience has been you can confirm upgrade at time of ticketing not booking.Only 1 F seat generally at a time.If trying for 2 upgrades as I have you have to wait for the second to be confirmed but twice now that has been less than 24 hours.

Many thanks for the quick replies... AA F here I come!
