Officially, the only people who have access to this lounge are:

Qantas - Chairmans Lounge
BA - Gold
and Passengers arriving in CW or First

All of these must be arriving on a BA long haul flight.

(Or so I am told).

However, I've seen written here and elsewhere that QF Plats get the same treatment as BA Gold's when flying a JSA flight, and possibly some others.

Now, my reasoning for asking is fairly simple. Arrived on a HKG-LHR flight after travelling WT+, tried to use the Arrivals lounge, and got the standard 'Sorry, no access because you're not in J or F'. Upon pressing the point nicely, the friendly ground staffer checked the 'cheat sheet' and still advised that I didn't have access rights.

So, exactly who has access rights to the arrivals lounge?

Well the One World BA page does say this:

Executive Club Gold

Gold is equivalent to oneworld Emerald

But maybe it only works one way and not in the reverse as far as lounge access goes.

You're talking about the Terminal 1 arrivals lounge right? Would make sense being BA only I guess.

The arrivals lounge in T4 on the other hand has a sign out the front saying BA Exec Club Gold, First Class, Club World; and on the same sign underneath it: Qantas First, Business and Platinum cardholders.

AFAIK, you should have had access.

Here's a post from FT: The (QF FF/QP) OW Lounge Info. Thread : BA LHR T4 - Arrivals Lounge. Also read Dave Noble's clarification a few posts further down.

Unless things have changed, the "friendly ground staffer" who "checked the 'cheat sheet'" was either leading you astray. This was either deliberate :x , or they were not going to admit they were incorrect.

I believe access should have been granted as part of the JSA!

Arrivals lounge access is not a OneWorld benefit, so being BA Gold being OneWorld Emerald has nothing to do with BA offering arrivals lounge access to non-BA Emerald members.

My understanding is that arrivals lounge access is for J, F and BA Gold members only.

A slightly different question. Apart from the obvious that arrival lounges take the incoming pax, what facilities do they offer and how do they differ from the depature lounges. Also if in transit say from SIN-LHR-CDG, are you better off going through to departures?

The BA arrivals lounge at T4 offers a full english breakfast, including eggs cooked to order. While having a shower, you can have your trousers pressed - just hang them in a little two-way compartment in the door and the staff will collect them, press them and return while you are showering.

Also provide news papers and a quiet place to sit and read.

Thanks guys.

Weird to have the T4 lounge and T1 lounges follow different rules.

Maybe it is something to do with the JSA, and JSA flights arriving in T4 or something equally weird.

Next time a Plat arrives in T1 from a BA long haul flight, wanna check and let me know how you get on?

Actually, it doesn't say Platinum, but does say Chairmans Lounge.
I was quite disappointed at Pl's exclusion!!

Hmmm I'm pretty sure I saw what I saw (re: Platinum freq flyer access), but will check again on Wednesday when I pass through

Until then!

Quick question. Do you have access if flight was booked under QF code instead of BA code?

Makes no difference. Access is based on cabin flown (J or F), route flown (must be long-haul arrival), and FF status (BA Gold and possibly QF Plat as discussed above). So QF or BA operated or coded makes no difference.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Just to clarify.

Do you need all 3 of the following to be true to get access?

Arriving at LHR on BA metal longhaul, AND
Flown cabin business or first, AND
Status either BA Gold (or Premier presumably) or QF CL.

Or is it the following 2 both need to be true?

Arriving at LHR on BA metal longhaul, AND
Either flown cabin business or first OR status either BA Gold or Premier or QF CL

Certainly the following WILL get you in:
"Arriving at LHR on BA or QF metal longhaul on BA/QF flight number, AND
Flown cabin business or first".

As far as I know, this should also get you in:
"Arriving at LHR on BA or QF metal longhaul on BA/QF flight number, AND
status either BA Gold or Premier or QF CL/QF WP".

It's the /QF WP that appears the be the issue here; I am going to EMail Qantas in relation to that.

Must arrive on a BA or QF long haul flight.

AND

Must be either travelling in J/F OR be a BA Gold or QF Chairman's Lounge member. Qantas Platinum status is still be to determined.

Hello Mr <serfty>

Thank you for your correspondence regarding access to the arrivals lounge
at London 's Heathrow airport.

I would like to advise that as Platinum Qantas Frequent Flyer you will be
able to access the arrivals lounge, regardless of your class of travel.
You will need to be travelling on a Qantas or British Airways flight in
order to access the lounge and you are not permitted to take a guest into
the lounge.

Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact me
at the Qantas Club and Frequent Flyer Service Centre.

Yours sincerely

Although Qantas seems to have missed the part about the flight needing to be a long haul flight rather than short haul.

I've now followed up with BA asking why I was denied access...

Will be interesting to see what they say.

Might be good idea to keep a printed copy of that email with you. Just substitute the name and FF number 8) .
