I am researching booking a Qantas Classic Award booking for 2 of us to LHR.

Once I have booked the award flights, can I then select seats. I know that I will have to pay for each seat choice. I am a Bronze FF, sadly never quite make it to silver. Only personal travel.

Thanks for the link Stephen.

I did have a look at the Qantas site for paid seat selection. But the link does not actually say yes or no if it is available for Award bookings.

yes, paid seat selection is available on classic award bookings (and asa's)

Wow that is good news.

If I am going to have to travel in Economy at least I can select my seat. I don't mind paying if the seat is a good one (i.e. better than trusting it to 24hrs out).

I did have enough points to travel PE but I could not find any flight that would give me all legs in PE. Mostly I would be paying points for PE but only half PE flights, the rest economy.

if you're on the A380,seats 80A/80K are supposed to be quite good for economy with regards to space/legroom in front

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yes cjd600. We flew home from London (paid flights) in Oct and had booked 80A/B and yes the extra leg room is very good and easy access to get out.

Unfortunately parts of the award flights I am looking at are only part leg on the A380. It doesn't offer all the way to London on that flight.

Have you compared the cost SIN/LHR/SIN (A380) of a JASA vs the Classic award as sometimes there's not a huge difference in points but you would pay a bit more cash for the JASA but the trade off is that you earn ff points & status credits. You could then buy a cheap return airfare or package ex Aust to SIN (or another city in Asia & back).

How many ff points to you have available to burn?

I had no problem selecting seats for our classic award flights so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

I have travelled twice to LHR with stopover in HKG and SIN on return leg and was able to select my seats. You may have to pay extra if it is one of the seats that is an aisle seat or on the 747 the rows of 2 seats at the rear.
