Avis is GBP51 plus GBP14.50 for the HEX though so is more expensive than Hertz at GBP58 :)

Just checked. If you use the Qantas Frequent Flyer CDP number ( 297302 ) , the Hertz rate for a group D drops to GBP52.51 including taxes

Dave

The rate I am being quoted at the moment is GBP105!!!

If you go to www.hertz.com

Select Country of Residence as Australia

Location Marble Arch and tick the I am returning to another location

Put the pick up as saturday and drop off as sunday

and tick yes to "I have a CDP number"

On the next page put in 297302 as the CDP number and that you are rturning to LHR

D (IDMR) quotes at GBP52.21

Do you have a Hertz Gold CLub card? If so, make sure that you are NOT logged into your account. If , like me, you have "decline CDP" in your preferences, then you will get a horrendous rate quoted. Using the 297302 CDP number whilst logged in , I get a rate quote of GBP155.12 for the same group D booking

How very strange - if I left country as UK the price was double

It looks like a small number of cars are cheap and the rest are horrendously expensive :-|

All booked now - just need to cancel Avis...

Not actually that surprising. It is not uncommon for rates to be different depending on country of residence. Renting cars in Australia can get different rates if you use UK as company of residence

The main car groups are reasonably priced methunks. Groups B,C and D are 36.90, 45.90 and 52.51 .

If you look on Google Maps and locate LHR and then enter Avis for the business search you will note the Avis location that is just off the Northern Perimeter Road, parallel to Bath Road.

When exiting the Avis centre, turn right and travel along the Northern Perimiter road and follow the signs to the M4 and then to the M25.

When coming back to the airport, I have several times found myself going through the tunnel to terminals 1-2-3. So don't make that mistake. Follow the signs from the M25 for LHR Terminals 1-2-3 that will take you onto the M4 and then exit at the large roundabout and onto what is shown on the Google Map as a white road near the A408. Just before the tunnel, where the mini Concorde used to be, turn left onto the perimeter road. It is not well sign posted for rental car returns and is easily missed (as I have missed on at least 2 occasions).

Google Maps

Now that you are using Hertz, note that Hertz is actually a right turn before the tunnel. See this map for the Hertz locaiton on the Northern Perimeter Road.

Rented a car from Hertz Marble Arch a few years back; did a far bit of driving - ending up in Bath.

Drove from Bath back to LHR, dropped family and luggage back at T4 (where road access is from the South side) then drove on around the perimeter to the North Side where the Hertz premises are. Then back onto a Hertz shuttle bus to T4 for check-in. Took about ¾ hour from Initial T4 drop off to getting back to T4.

I believe that if you contact Hertz LHR in advance, you may be able to arrange a drop off at T4 itself; at least this is what they told me once when I was departing from T4 (ugh) and had just driven around the airport to get to the Hertz office and I complained about the lack of return facilities in the T4 vicinity

I haven't had the displeasure of a T4 departure since then, so haven't had a need to see what they would say when it is requested

Dave

OK - Will try and remember to call Hertz LHR today re T4 drop off. Good to know that it is a 45 min trunaround.

I cant believe that on my extremely focussed Harry Potter reading Mileage run - I wont have any time to read Potter until I get to the lounge!

I am dedicated but not quite dedicated enough to queue with a bunch of 10 year olds at midnight after a very long afternoon lunch with the team here ;)

OT ...

Me, I'll wait until I'm next in the US and get the book for ½ the price you need to pay in Oz.

At AUD28 for a hardback book, I don't suppose it will be dramatically cheaper in the US

Dave

11 quid here - can't bring myself to start it yet - have to run to herz!

Currently available in the US for ~USD18, by November I'd expect it to be about USD8, while here in Oz you may be able to get it from Big W for ~AUD19.

Of course you could redeem 6,000 Amex Reward points for a copy (of the children's cover version).

Hmmm. Nah don't think so!
