re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

We have actually earnt some lifemiles from flying.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Has anybody ever transferred miles between accounts?
Looking at the LifeMiles website, it seems as though it costs US$15 + taxes per 1,000 miles.
If this is correct and not a typo, then to transfer 75,000 miles would cost US$1,125.00 + Taxes
This is about what I paid for that many points during the last promo without taxes IIRC.

why would you even need to transfer that many points? Wouldn't it get to a point where it would be cheaper to buy the award for someone else, or even top up at 1.5c rather than lose the money on the transfer itself?

That's why you only transfer during 100% bonus, so you effectively "buy" miles.

The advantage of transferring miles is that the account doesn't have to be preexisting. You can create account for your extended family, and keep transferring and can end up with 100,000's miles in each account. Disregard the "+tax", it doesn't apply to is.

But with LM breaking apart, I don't see anyone rushing to do it now.

A friend who I did some business with has a US credit card. He purchased ~75,000 miles (inc bonus) for me using his card.
LifeMiles froze my account, money transferred back to his account, no LM for me. LM advised me that I should purchase using a card in my own name. My account is active again, just has a zero balance.
Now that he owes me a few US$$, I thought he might be able to buy miles for himself then transfer them to me.
Funny thing is that we have done this (buy using his card) before without any problems.

Assuming that this will continue, would it be easier for him to get a sup card for u?

Strange, I bought miles for my parents using my credit card, never had problem. Maybe it's because we have same surname?

I understand the suggestion but don't know that I would like to ask somebody, even though a friend, to provide me with a supplementary credit card.

He can keep the card, and does not need to give it to you :)

you'd be paying for the miles twice... once for him to buy them, then again for the transfer. Maybe your friend could buy miles in United for you instead? at least you'll get availability!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

And I'm the latest victim of reschedule/misconnect. My GRU-JNB-PER flights don't connect now that SAA have cancelled the 0.35 am departure flight from GRU. I've been automatically rebooked on the 6 pm flight the same day meaning I arrive in JNB after my flight to PER has departed.

So I rang SAA who told me to ring Lifemiles who I duly called and was told I had to call SAA...the circle has closed. Rang SAA again and the lady said she had to email Johannesburg office to move us to the 6 pm flight the day earlier so we could still connect in JNB and that she would give me a call.. fingers crossed it'll work and Lifemiles will revalidate the ticket as now the connection time in JNB is more than 8 hours:(

that should be fine. involuntary changes aren't usually an issue for revalidations/reissues.

Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

It was fine indeed. However, the process was not for the faint hearted. SAA opened 2 J seats on an earlier flight that connects ok now (13 hrs in JNB) with the flight to Perth but Lifemiles people couldn't see them, or to be more precise, they could but saw them as unconfirmed.
So I rang SAA back, they were adamant they were confirmed and in fact I could see them on checkmytrip as "confirmed off wait list". Rang back Lifemiles. 40 min on the phone! Thanks god I've got 150 free international minutes on my mobile plan with Optus -:) finally confirmed and the new tickets are on the way! A big relief...now need to change a domestic GOL ticket from Brasilia to San Paolo to arrive there before our GRU-JNB flight departs but that's another story -:)

Hi,

I have a booking in J SYD-ICN and ICN-LAX for this THursday. THe only reason I booked that way was because there was no availability for a direct SYD-LAX flight. I can see today that there are seats available on United direct SYD-LAX in J. If I cancel the existing booking with Avianca, how long does it take before I see the points in my account, so I can book the SYD-LAX flight ?

Cheers
LP

Why not just do a straight out change? It costs more, but for peace of mind it'll be done instantly! No worries about seats going. (Plus by the time you factor in the $25 booking fee for a new booking, it's not too bad.)

What's the best way to do that ? THe points required is also less.

I did a cancellation this morning, and the points were back in my account almost immediately, unlike the points for a Krisflyer redemption I cancelled yesterday :\

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Ring the call centre. They will do it all in one go. The change fee is more than the cancel fee, but its worth it for peace of mind.
