re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

they ran out on us BKK-SYD back in May. full cabin but not everyone was drinking. the words were along the lines of 'we need to keep some for our flight back to BKK' :(

I am going to have to keep an eye on the flight loads BKK-SYD on the flight arriving just before mine departs!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm looking at Fx2 for SYD-BKK Feb 2016 via TG but the dates I want are unavailable. Is it just a case of checking daily or is their an ideal time that seats are released?

This is one of the thing with FFP, you never know if the airline will release the seat or not. CX are well known to release every seat but 1 that are unsold on their business and first class, but I don't think TG is like that.

The most likely scenario is that someone has already grabbed them...from my experience TG always seem to release 2 F seats daily. ..they may or may not release more. .just need to recheck frequently if that particular date is needed.

I bought, 2x 105 000. Who knows, may come in handy. Especially as my new job allows salary packaging of holiday accommodation on top of the other PBI benefits! I aim to take enough holidays to pay no tax for the year ;)

TG used to release seats in batches of 2 until the initial allocation was exhausted. This release would be instant (while you were ticketing the first two, the next two would show up if they were going to). However, TG has reduced the number of F award seats on some flights, so the old rules may no longer apply. IIRC, TG used to allocate something like 4F and 8J on every flight. But now it can be as little a 1 F on flights to Tokyo.

After the initial allocation, additional seats can be released at any time. The night before departure I saw a TG flight F2A2O2 - so they are, at least some times, willing to fill the cabin any way they can. It's worth checking.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

When they announced the 787 on the BKK BNE route, I managed to grab a single TG J award seat via LifeMiles, I had already booked BKK > MEL for that day anyway, now I get to fly on the 787 (finally).

Well worth the $50USD cancellation fee and the resulting dom Y home to MEL I think ;)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I'm going to email them regarding a booking... any tips before I do? (screenshot method)

hoping for PER-BKK-NRT-SEA

TG 787, TG A380, NH 777

when I search PER-BKK - the flight comes up no problem
search BKK-SEA - flights come up no problem
search PER-SEA - nothing available

I assume I just include my LM number and the screenshots, ask them to quote me how many miles it would be one way?

Include the three screenshots as you mention, plus the other 'required information' as outlined upthread (name, account numbers, time to call and other stuff).

They will create the booking for you and call to take payment (tey'll tell you the number of miles at that time).

Thanks for your help, Am I right that it's 80k per person one way... so 320,000 for 2x J return?

Plz let us know if it works as this itinerary involves transiting in 2 different regions and I'm not sure if LM will allow it. Even before the IT glitch day this was not possible. But plz report back, or post in the successful forum.

I'm not sure if I'll go for it, might actually change to route to PER-BKK (TG 787) then BKK-ICN-JFK (OZ A380) instead....

Even with the additional 10% bonus its still $3k return... oh the good ol days of paying $2.2k or less AU-NA return in J with a stopover (USDM i miss you long time)

So you're saying this type of itinerary breaks the rules?

Actually, other than no mixed cabin and no stopover, I can't really see any routing rules with LM. Even the 8 hr layover rule is not found anywhere in the T&Cs. It was assumed by everybody as you can't book online for connection >8hrs but apparently with the screenshots there had been exceptions.

In the past LM had the most bizzare connections (eg. SYD-NRT transiting in YVR) which led to those hidden city trick. So obviously they were pretty relaxed with routings. They have fixed majority of it, (which I believe has contributed to the IT glitch that also killed many valid routings) so any complex routing will have to be booked manually, ie. Screenshots. I believe they review the connections now and see if it is sensible routing to avoid hidden city tricks. (This is just my opinion and have no basis. That's why I'm happy to be proven wrong if people can come up with a complex itinerary.)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Bought miles on Monday and got 10% bonus today :) a bit late compared to others.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

yes, took email to support, plus 72 hours (over the weekend) for points to be credited. still no sign of 10% bonus points.

my bonus points were credited 2 days after.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

After receiving an email instantly confirming my recent award booking, i did not receive second email with e-ticket for some 7 days.

I checked details on checkmytrip.com. Yes all appears in order.

Still wrote email to support@ to enquire. they replied +72 hours later with copies of etickets and text as per below.

"In regard to your case, we confirmed that tickets on your reservations have been successfully issued; we have sent the itinerary confirmation of booking codes x to the email registered on them. this information can also be verified and downloaded through the option "Ticket Status" under the Electronic Services tab at www.Avianca.com."

I have not use this previously, and when you go this page is is basically a web applet of the checkmytrip.com. Same functionality/layout within their webpage.

I also note at the bottom of the eticket itself is a link to checkmytrip.com!

So is this ticket status page new?

Are they are not sending out etickets anymore?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

trying to plan award back from Japan to OZ, and sure enough good old TG comes thru with first class KIX to SYD. (still need to get to MEL).

But this is almost 15 hours flying with 3.5 hours stop over in BKK.

Is this the sort of itinerary you guys are piecing together out of japan? Seems like a long journey.... but yes i know what you are going to say... the cheapest one for bang for buck.

Please confirm,

I can not book mixed class?
This will cost 50,000 points?
No stop over allowed?

My other option is QF award NRT to MEL (new business suite thru BNE) 72,000 points + $200 taxes.

I'm tossing up between the 2 ....

Pretty nice to be able to say i booked a QF award and in new J.

Have never down TG F , should do it before it disappears?

just highlights how crazy this game is first class for 18 hours or pay more to fly direct.

any thoughts?

All the criteria you list are correct.

Depending when you will fly, is the new business suite guaranteed via QF? Or are you going to potentially end up with Mk1 skybed?

50K for a TG F award is pretty sweet. I'd take that over the QF offering without hesitation. But you'll arrive into SYD only on that.
