I never knew I was Chinese. ;). I always try to catch up on sleep on long flights and am teetotal.

I do what I feel like at the time and it has nothing to do with my heritage.

Only 36% of Australian flyers have a drink? And that's the top number :) ? Not sure if its adults or all flyers, but I suspect it may have something to do with the proportion of longer haul flights taken.

I drink, then I sleep!
You stole my exact response. ;)
I figure I'm also preventing waste - it would be a shocking shame if any bottle of decent fizz up the pointy end was tipped down the sink. I do the selfless thing. THEN I sleep.

I definitely take the chance to indulge in free/airfare subsidised alcohol when on board. I find it pretty difficult to sleep on planes (travelling almost exclusively in Y :() so I often play games on my iPad or watch the AVOD. I'm pretty shy and not much good at small talk so I usually keep to myself when flying solo.

I think it's part of it. Those longer haul flights are also more likely to have free alcohol than short haul, which would obviously influence things. I'd think that the nature of some routes would influence alcohol consumption. I'd speculate that there's a bit more drinking going on for a MEL-DPS than a MEL-SYD weekday flight.

On Chinese domestic flights on several airlines, I've never seen alcohol being offered so that may affect the percentages for Chinese passengers. It is very common here though to see people in public places sneak in a nap whenever possible (and indeed this is encouraged as a healthy habit by some) so it doesn't surprise me that they came out on top in that category.
