Australian state border restrictions

I’m just finishing up a nice brunch in Mildura. Was going to head to SA Riverland today for a few days and then down to the Limestone Coast area around Mt Gambier for a few more.
Instead I’m turning around and will spend my accom, dining and golf $ in regional Vic and NSW, rather than regional SA.

After too many hours on the phone with SA covid people and tech support, I still can’t make the EntryCheck process work. (across multiple browsers on laptop and safari on the phone! 🤯🤬) At least my (now wasted) covid test from Echuca was negative.

So, I’m not prepared to risk wasting more hours at the border or being turned around.

Good luck SA small business, especially whilst your elected officials keep jumping at shadows. I’m sure you’re all being kept very safe. 🤦‍♂️

yeah. That’s the thing. It’s exactly situations like yours that are killing SA. And this perception of being kept safe is only that. Maybe post this story on SA Social media because right now the boffins must be on a River in Egypt.

AFF is as close as I get to social media @Pushka. You’re welcome to post it as widely as you’d like if you think it would make any difference.

I’m not an SA voter so they couldn’t care less about me.

It's a flat out joke. Lucky for the SA government we can give them some latitude as covid was only discovered last week and everyone is just reacting and playing by ear at the moment 🤪

Shops are completely deserted today. Even a major Big W and Woolies. As is car park. Where is everyone. Ah. Maybe cricket. 🤷‍♀️😂

I see that SA Health have now listed a further two QF flights as exposure sites with passengers in rows 11-15 on both being considered to be close contacts which means 7 days isolation. Do any of the SA-based contributors know if affected passengers are being contacted by SA Health to inform them of their status and obligations? Or is it self-reporting system?

Meh I’d get a test and keep on holidaying.

Pinching an idea from Douglas Adams, I've always thought cricket could be made much more entertaining, if the balls were randomly explosive.

I’ve got travel booked outside of QLD and I’m happy to ‘forget’ to do some covid tests on the way back in and report back how many storm troopers kick my door in, for the benefit of those travelling up here for holidays 😂
Let me know your cell number, I'll send you some books to read whilst you're indefinitely detained

A WA epidemiologist has probably outed herself as Premier Marks source of health advice.
But outspoken epidemiologist Dr Zoë Hyde from the University of Western Australia believes the premiers are “dead wrong” in their approach.

“The Omicron variant has torn up the rule book and risks pushing us back to 2020,” she tweeted.

“We should stamp it out.”

And another tragedy due to QLD's disasterous border policies.

Finally got my SA text! Alas, I’m back home
I just forwarded you mine, that's all!

@Scarlett . Up to 22 likes now for your post and it is now 'stuck' to another article where the media and SA people are giving the state heaps about the issue of quarantining gaoling international arrivals without notice. Thank goodness it happened to Julie Gillard and Brett Ormsby (international golfer) in particular the latter threw the rubbish back at SA Health. And Gillard, while not saying anything public, represented the opposite political group. Would love to be a fly on the wall there.

A couple of interesting comments from McGowan today.

Unvaccinated West Australian residents who want to travel domestically once the state drops its borders may not be allowed to return home, even if they're happy to quarantine. (Finally a solid candidate for a High Court challenge, for those of you who've been salivating for one!)

McGowan said the transition date for new border arrangements would be set (probably in the next week) subject to any developments with the Omicron strain. So, some uncertainty will continue - not surprising, but .... boo!

How did we come to this? I think people who refuse to get vaccinated are very silly but I respect their right to silliness. Instead of National public education, we get Premiers abusing their State powers to stop people travelling domestically, whilst the same people can come in from overseas?

One text already from SA Gov to checkin and expect another one in an hour or so. I wonder how long this will continue.

Just desperate to lift the vaccination rate in the slow strollout….. will say anything to get them to get the jab.

WA is going to lose more and more events, conferences, tourism, business travel, sporting matches etc…. And it’s really dangerous… once someone gets a taste of another city they may not come back as frequently
