Australian state border restrictions

Another thing is if tourism businesses are struggling to retain staff, being "full" may not mean what it used to. Some may simply not have the staff to have most rooms occupied at once for months on end. There's only so many not getting shifts willing to hang around hoping that things will get busy again and they'll get shifts. Businesses need some certainty of borders reopening and staying open to try to increase their workforces back up towards pre-COVID levels.

Tourism industry being slightly untruthful there. School holidays atm and most tourist places are nearly or fully booked out.
Slightly tounge in cheek but Queensland holiday locations are for Queenslanders
Well as a resident of the plagued states, I just booked Fiji (the Sofitel) + a QF redemption on the weekend for June rather than Cairns. Thats $3,000 that Queensland won't be getting.

Even when Queensland eventually open up, they're offering an Australian experience not something more exotic/interesting, and at Australian prices. That won't be so appealing after 2 years of being trapped inside Australia.

Also, the argument that all the domestic hotels in Queensland are full of Queenslanders is rather cute. I'm sure North Korea use the same argument too with their hotels.

It has the side effect of keeping Queenslanders locked in their Covid-zero state (and maybe going to WA) indefinitely. I doubt Scomo will countenance allowing a bubble with NZ to occur if the states deviate from the agreed National Cabinet Plan.

If Qld does announce a 90% rule you wonder whether they will announce an out like if an outbreak takes hold or if they don’t make 90% by say June next year.

I am really not sure that is happening. Queenslanders have very options so are travelling internally. Where I am ATM no vacancy until 6 March. Both places where I have stayed in the past week have said as soon as they get a cancellation it is filled. One is managing a waiting list.

I am very sure and also very happy for the two places you have stayed not experiencing this.

As my family’s business is directly involved in tourism, hospitality and events I can assure you most QLD tourism operators are also in dire straits.

They are also finding in the holiday periods when they are busier, intra-Queensland tourists are spending less and staying shorter periods and the price they are getting (yields) per room is much lower.

This is why the tourism operators are furious at the QLD government.

Even in the NRL that would be a straight send off.
Exactly what I thought plus at least 6 match suspension.

As for tourist accommodation being booked out for the school holiday just checked booking.com for a booking this Wednesday to Friday in Noosa Heads.38 places available including a few in Hastings street.no way is that fully booked.

I've heard the same about WA. Sure the locals are travelling around, but they tend to be staying shorter, and are much more self sufficient - instead of orgainsing through a tour operator, will just go direct, or drive their themselves.

WA is actually worse than QLD by what I’ve heard from my uncles business, especially in Perth city.

We’re literally marking people now? What planet am I on?
This has been in practice in India since CoVID started. The health & sanitation department pastes a notice on the front door that there is a CoVID positive person quarantining in the premises.

Also done when someone returns from overseas and is in the 14 day quarantine.

There is also instances where people are stamped to show that they have completed their home quarantine

Most of the doctors & health authorities are against it due to privacy issues and other basic human/citizen rights.

I don't know what your uncles business is, but from what I gather at hotels, weekends are ok'ish. Mid week is pretty poor. Anyone that relied on business travel is pretty well cactus.
Operators built around international or interstate visitors are in a bad way - and sometimes they offer things the locals just aren't interested in. I guess its the same in Brisbane, locals aren't likely to engage much in some of the activities.

My Uncle supplies about 80% of Perth’s major hotels :) It’s really really bad :(

Mountain out of molehill - I think there is a current exception already available

Western Australia’s border closure with NSW could make it difficult for Premier Mark McGowan to attend his defamation trial against billionaire Clive Palmer without being forced to quarantine upon his return.
During a Federal Court hearing on Monday, Justice Michael Lee indicated he preferred witnesses for the trial, tentatively scheduled to begin in late January in Sydney, to testify in person.

But the court heard WA’s hard border could still be in place at the time, which would mean the Premier would likely be required to quarantine when he returned home.

Under WA’s current border restrictions with NSW, almost everyone is banned from travelling west except for commonwealth, state and specialist functions.

Anyone who is permitted entry must undertake 14 days of hotel quarantine at their own expense, provide proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test in the 72 hours prior to departure and show a receipt of at least one dose of a vaccine if eligible.

The defamation case was first brought by Mr Palmer after he was described as an “enemy of the state”, with the Premier then making a counterclaim.

Justice Lee has now ordered the state to provide relevant documents for the case.

The matter will return to court in November for a case management hearing and Justice Lee indicated the travel issue would be discussed further then.

Palaszczuk government rejects reports Queensland will stay closed until 90 per cent vaccine coverage

The Queensland Premier has hosed down suggestions her government agreed to a vaccine plan at odds with the rest of Australia.

A spokesperson for the Premier emphatically denied the enhanced threshold had been endorsed and reiterated the Premier supported a reopening before Christmas with the state allowing fully vaccinated people to visit.

“We all hope that we can see our relatives and friends at Christmas time,” she said.

“That’s going to depend on people getting vaccinated.”

If FNQ isn’t opened for travel IMMEDIATELY NOW then the peak season will be over before NSW and Vic can visit. Between mid-October and about April my only reason to go to FNQ would be a status run rather than have a holiday and I presume many others would feel the same.

Well thank goodness the 90% ‘news’ was fake news.
