Australian state border restrictions

With awareness I'm inviting a flurry of sarcastic replies (have at it! :)); anyone have any inside info on when WA will/might open to NT?
I'm in same boat, wife and youngest son booked in 1.5 weeks to fly to WA, and did reserve booking again for 3.5 weeks just in case. All QFF and cancellable.

.tickets to the theatre

I had a performance cancelled on 24th June and another show this Saturday 10th July, also betting the other show I have tickets for on 22nd July wont happen. At least I wasn't travelling for them, so hopefully will get rescheduled.

Last year Qld and SA missed out on spend from me due to border closures. This year already cancelled Vic and now WA will likely miss out, wouldn't be surprised if xmas Qld trip also doesn't happen.

All flights except the one using an amex credit were on points and all accommodation is refundable, but keeping vaccinated people locked out sends the wrong message and harms small businesses who would benefit from domestic tourism given the international tap is already cut off.

I'm more likey to go OS (and that's not NZ) first than WA!
I have never been to WA. Will only go there anytime soon if QF restarts commercial flights to London that I'm allowed to go on and if those go via WA.

I expect it will be possible to travel to some other OS destinations in addition to NZ before WA allows visa-free access to NSW residents. It can only be a matter of time before McClown holds a referendum about leaving the Commonwealth.

read down a bit to see that SA and WA have again banned travellers from the ACT. The interesting part is the Canberra Airport owner retaliating with a threat to ban flights from WA and SA to the ACT “into the future”. Of course he probably won’t - commercial reality etc etc. But it’s another example of my lament that there is clearly no such country as Australia any more.

And like the timing on international cap cutting sinking my plan to see Seat Son, this set of actions looks likely to prevent me taking the 4 contract for training delivery in SA that I just secured. That cash flow would have really helped my small business. Totally.Over.It.Now.

I can certainly relate to that.

As an ACT resident I can feel my world shrinking by the minute, even though we have no (known) cases.

I expect all my bookings over the next couple of months will have to be cancelled (to SA, WA and QLD).

It’s gone beyond a joke hasn’t it. It’s the ever-moving goal post that is one of the hardest things for me to take. We have a good record on no community transmission (touch wood no jinx now I said that) and a great vaccine uptake and have managed that throughout the Sydney lockdown period with our territory’s risk management profile and restrictions. As the article says, if that’s not good enough, then what on earth ever will be? there is clearly no such entity as Australia anymore, and clearly no common sense or proper risk management capacity in those nd other states - see my (rant) post #113 on this topic in this other thread:

I worry about the moving goal post syndrome on international border re-opening too, in relation to vaccination target in particular.

As a result of all this malarky, I’m now adding WA and SA to QLD as the states that I will avoid like the plague (🤣too soon🤣?) if things ever revert to normal. I know they don’t care, but if enough of us do it, the financial reality might bite eventually. I know it won’t just need to feel the possibility that the little people can roar.

I do wonder though how many of these signatures are ONLY about AP and how many are about border closures in general.
Probably the case, but for me it’s a sign that not everyone is happy with the status quo. It’s a bit of effort to sign an on-line petition - involves multiple steps, so the fact that people are persevering suggests they feel something about it.

I signed because of her policies where local people from interstate zones are put into quarantine which then of course puts immense pressure on the international system so instead of focusing on what her govt can do she berates business travellers and wants to reduce travellers drastically. Then proceeds to plan her trip for business. Her complete lack of empathy to assist in extreme life and death situations is well, I don’t even have words for that.

To think that current outbreak was basically caused by a 60 year old who wanted Pfizer. No doubt driven by the media scare stories about AZ with their ‘experts’.

Or used that as an excuse for not bothering to get vaccinated when the police came knocking. Noting that was only mentioned after he lawyered up.

Even if he was influenced by the media to not get AZ, he had personal responsibility to not work jobs with arrivals given he wasn't vaccinated.

As an ACT resident too, I whole heartedly agree. I travel a bit for work, although WA and SA are now off my list.

I love the quote from the ABC article:
Mr Marshall said the fact that the ACT has not recorded any locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, despite its porous border with NSW, "confounds the epidemiologists".

Maybe it's because we watch out for social distancing, practice good hand hygiene, wear masks and check in with QR Codes etc - like everyone is supposed to. And that's why we haven't had outbreaks. I'm bemused that, "... confounds the epidemiologists."

Vic is opening up from Sunday. Perth, NT, Townsville, Gold Coast turning into green zones. Brisbane and Sunshine Coast turning into orange zones.

Unless Melbourne gets 1 or 2 cases then you will probably need to scamper home or find out what HQ is like.

Sounds like things are getting worse in Japan and zero crowds allowed to attend Olympics so no need for Anna to go surely

Yup it’s bad in Japan and no spectators period at Olympics now…. So if AP hauls herself over there she will not be allowed to go to the Olympics and will have to watch them from her hotel bedroom with limited room service… so what’s the point.
