Australian state border restrictions

How could that be? Isn't it the gold standard?
The term "Gold Standard" was coined to describe the NSW Health's ability to contact trace and keep outbreaks under control without resorting to a lockdown. They've done that for 18 months which is an incredible effort, when every other major city has had a city wide lockdown. They are now presented with a very different situation and are acting appropriately.

To be honest I find your comment in very poor taste, it's smacks of Schadenfreude and I don't think it's appropriate.

I can understand road but not flights…
Seems unnecessary

I think the logic is - stay with me -

Sydney people can go to regional NSW
Regional NSW can go to ACT
ACT can go to QLD/VIC

So either ACT closes to NSW completely or QLD/VIC closes to ACT.

Which is a bit of a worry with our Monday departure from ACT to QLD!?! Could it be the third time this trip has been postponed :(

You referred to Victoria as 'pathetic' the other day for implementing LGA based restrictions.

Every state in Australia has dealt with a statistically tiny number of outbreaks. Yet we endlessly hear that x state would do this, y state would never do that, Gladys does not do lockdown etc.

I would love for us to move on from the ridiculous state based jingoism. Perhaps we can acknowledge that not all outbreaks are the same? Perhaps this is not an exact science.

As for the schadenfreude...I'm not sure you can really appreciate what it's like to have been someone living in Victoria in the past 9 months subjected to endless negativity of...well, I won't say in case it makes this overly political and subject to deletion. Anyway, I'm sure none of that scrutiny will come to NSW so all good.

If you’re going to quote me, do it right and don’t make words up. I said it was a joke declaring an LGA a red zone for one case, yes. And I stand by that. Keep in mind red zone means even Victorians can’t return home. Yes I absolutely stand by that.

There’s no debate to be had with Victorians who believe their government has handled covid well. I shan’t try.

What's the ACT done to justify that?

Existing.

Watch QLD follow - our CHO didn’t even know it existed ;)
Pretty much. Victoria has become extremely (& excessively) risk averse over the past 6 months. It makes everything so risky, and even when the WA border is open I personally find going to see family to be a very stressful experience because of the possibility I won't be able to return to Victoria and thus forgo at least 2 weeks of income (if my employer agrees to leave without pay, otherwise I lose two weeks of hard earned leave sitting in my apartment), should the red zone declaration be made. And that's assuming one was to get an immediate exemption to return and undergo 14 days of quarantine.

Regional NSW can go to ACT
ACT can go to QLD/VIC

So either ACT closes to NSW completely or QLD/VIC closes to ACT.
There is no logic to that argument.

Sydney people can go to regional NSW
Regional NSW border residents can go to VIC border towns
VIC border residents can go anywhere else in the state

WA still regard ACT as very low risk.

Sydney people can go to regional NSW

No they cant

Tnis is first time since the national lockdown in March/April last year that residents of all of Greater Sydney have been restricted from travelling to regional areas. We have no km limit within greater Sydney, but cant leave greater Sydney.

My original point is Sydney residents could travel to regional NSW up until last night - and could have spread covid there, which is why all of NSW is subject to masks and restrictions.

The state border thing in SA is nonsensical. For the last few days, it's been if you arrived since last Wednesday from Greater Sydney then isolate for 14 days and three tests. Then last night they extended the drag net to include the Monday to Tuesday prior. Previously Monday and Tuesday arrivals only had to test, but not isolate, on 3 days. Now, Monday and Tuesday arrivals have to isolate for 14 days. But they've been in the community for almost 7 days by now. Having arrived the Friday before MrP decided to get tested even though there has been no instruction from SA Health to do so. Negative of course.

And all the delivery drivers and others with exemptions still can. But we arent seeing the mass exodus we were seeing into regional holiday spots we saw last July when Vic border closed and virus jumped border to start Crossroads and Thai Rock.
