Interesting ( and for me, encouraging) poll result in Hobart Mercury on - line. Historically, you’d expect a strong “keep the borders closed” type response. ( The test requirement has just been waived)

Hopefully we get to a no RAT/PCR, no permit and no quarantine for interstate travel soon, but there will still be 'news' until at least 5 Feb (WA planned date).Good to see this thread running out of steam.

US or any other tourists, can't come here anyway so it's rather moot.I see US now recommended their citizens to NOT visit Australia......correct me if wrong.

Sure. Do you think they are going to listen to the message though!True but there are a reasonable number of of Aussie citizens that have US Green cards (permanent residency), and they can still come for a visit.
My best friend from Uni (Aussie), Her Hubby (US) and 3 kids (all dual citizens) are flying in to Sydney for a visit in a couple of weeks, they meet the close relative rule.

Tasmanians will be in the full "living with COVID" stage in the coming months, Premier Peter Gutwein says, when the disease is treated like other respiratory diseases such as influenza and the last remaining restrictions are lifted.
But the Tasmanian Greens have described this as a "dangerous" approach that puts the lives of vulnerable people at risk, while the epidemiologist who provided modelling for Tasmania's reopening plan has warned governments to avoid a "tsunami of cases".

…and no commitment on when it will open! Probably after the Federal Election?WA just extended their tough border stance, no opening up on the 5 Feb
He seems to indicate not until third dose rates get far higher…and no commitment on when it will open! Probably after the Federal Election?

“far higher” - 60, 70, 80, 90%. He couldn’t give a figure…He seems to indicate not until third dose rates get far higher

No, this is not necessarily what the people want. Everyone I know was wanting the border opened on February 5, We know Covid-19 will rampage around the state as it has over east. That’s why the majority are vaccinated. I think it’s near enough to 90% now, but not sure of exact percentage. That’s the figure we were told for border opening. Booster doses didn’t come into the equation. Then it’ll be fourth… and fifth… and sixth…
I feel for people who have family in WA, but at the end of the day this is what the people wanted. The rest of the country needs to move on. Hopefully we can start to drop requirements like PCR testing for international arrivals and continue a return to normality. WA can do as it pleases.
