Australian state border restrictions

Bank in June when there were only a couple of minor hotspots there was a Queensland Health desk inside one of the exit doors from QF arrivals. This appeared to be where people were supposed to surrender themselves for hotel quarantine. Perhaps QPS brought them there, because it was easy to bypass. I flew out last month on VA and didn't see anything like that, but could have missed it. I am guessing the surrender desk will reappear, if it is gone.

Cheers skip

That was not my meaning. I was reflecting more on not encouraging the message to vaccinate with this method of spot checks.
I reckon it’s too late to ‘message’ re vaccinating. By this time you’re either going to have had at least the first dose or not; the difference between border inspections and spot checks I don’t think will change the views of the unvaccinated.

That is so sad. Tasmania is really not enforcing the need to be vaccinated to move about freely. I hope other states are more rigorous.

It’s not sad it’s just a reality there is no way that they (Tassie) or any state for that matter can continue to afford the personnel and infrastructure to screen every single person on every single flight / car / boat coming in now there is a massive increase in movement of people, flights etc.

Though yesterday the also announced an initiative to get 12-18 year olds to get vaccinated.

As they because of their start date are the group that has fewer vaccinated as yet i thought this was reasonable.

Yesterday they also began advertising for extra contact tracing staff. At least giving the impression they are getting organised unlike some other states.

I think now so many places have this week mandated the vaccine in SA that there will be a rush here as borders open next week. I’m good with the mandate except - 17 high schools have planned their graduation ceremonies in December at a couple of these venues. Not every student even has the chance now to be double vaxxed before their graduation so they can’t go. I completely disagree with mandating something with only 2 weeks notice. Schools have had to cancel their graduation. Or have students not be able to go.

This happened in Sydney/NSW too.
They pushed back access to hospitality etc for the unvaccinated to Dec 15th.
I actually don’t mind this.
There has been more than ample time given nationwide for every 12-18yr old to be fully vaccinated.
My daughters’ school sent out an email with the new details and offered a refund to those students and parents who are no longer eligible to attend. The graduation is at a Function Centre off site.

The wailing on Dom P’s Facebook posts from the unvaccinated in NSW is loud though about the changes.

Is Dom P = Dom Perignon? ;)

NT is about to roll out RAG tests to all arrival ports for interstate travelers.

NT doubling down - from Monday 22/11 unvaccinated travellers from interstate (excluding returning NT residents) will be denied entry to the NT.
No option to quarantine.
How long until a legal challenge I wonder

I can understand 16- 17 year Olds just wanting to finish their exams first. Which has only just happened here in SA.

SA have released their LGA risk level list

Quite a few "moderate risks" there

Honestly, SA is still in the "Get stuffed" book for me.

My LGA is classed as Moderate, with an active amount of cases that could be counted on both hands.

I have to hope that as we get cases then we will fold (aka live with it) like NSW and then Victoria did. 🤞

No one is going to even bother checking this stuff.

Case in point - dealing with people today (rostered weekend sigh) going to SA - all they’ve read is ‘borders open and might have to get a test’….

I suspect non-compliance is going to be off the charts. The more complicated these bureaucratic public servants make them the less people will follow them.

I think Tassie has actually realised this and have just chucked the borders open with no screening because they know it’s just over now. Seems like SA hasn’t quite gotten their head around it yet.

Indeed.

Setting LGA by LGA based rules for pax that are double vaxed = Time to make some back-of-house staff cutbacks in the SA Health department.

I'm sure WA will be the same, once they get their head around opening up. It's required from everywhere but the Very Low risk jurisdictions now, but I imagine that will change when they rethink their borders.
