In NSW schools are a source of many covid cases.

I also know of a Private school where there are several cases in year 3 students.
but the good news is that holidays are close,it's summer and a vaccine for 5 - 11 year olds will soon roll out.

Tasmania has produced a card for those who don't have mobile phones to enable them to check in with QR codes.

That’s good, with a very old population they needed to accomodate.

That article is seriously out of date, source of that school infection was announced days ago. A student was at same rock climbing centre as the cases from the other nearby school which was visited at same time by a returned traveller from Nigeria.

Still not seeing any serious omicron illness, no hospitalisations.

Under 12s have been the largest chort of cases for a while now because not vaccinated. Nothing to see, move along.

WHO announced today that prelim evidence was greater infectivity but so far, even in SA, was milder disease.

So the leak last week was accurate then.
This is actually wonderful news because hopefully it will eradicate the more severe Delta…

Instead of shrieking at NSW and putting more restrictions in, SA should be opening their doors hoping that it comes in and replaces Delta ;)

Indeed. Everywhere in fact.

SA Premier announced yesterday that our hated Transitions committee was being axed at 90% dd. Late December. Fantastic news. The day before, the opposition leader announced that if they won the election in March then the new Premier would be on that committee. Timing of the axing statement was interesting.

I am all in favour of letting the milder Omicron replace Delta. But if it spreads faster and we can still be isolated if we are close contacts of someone who gets it, it is going to mess up a lot of people. And the negative PCR test should not apply to vaccinated people. I don't really care if I get a watered down version while being protected by the vax. Unless a postive test result ruins my travel plans. Why are people still worrying about "spread" and "cases"?

And it’ll stuff up your plans even after medical clearance if you continue to test positive. I need to somehow get a positive test plus a doctors letter of recovery before I can go to Tasmania. Getting a test is not recommended for six months for screening or travel purposes but Tasmania wants it anyway.

I suppose the concern at the moment is its still a little bit unknown in terms of severity across the demographics. It looks like it will result in less severe sickness than delta which is great but if far more people are catching it, the overall numbers needing medical treatment might be greater.

In the next month or so it will likely become the dominant strain in Europe so should get a good idea. The UK also brought in additional restrictions last night to try and slow the spread.

We don’t routinely test healthy people for any other virus
Epidemiologically, routine testing in a population with low disease prevalence increases the possibility of false positives in the tests. I wrote about this in another thread - best to now only test people with symptoms

Didn't we used to say letting the kids play in the dirt and getting dirty allows them to develop immunity from all sorts of things?. Now the adults are scared of "Playing in the dirt"?
Even before Covid the whole world became infected with Anxiety. We are now the world of "Glen20" where we exhort people to spray everything, and the world of "safe spaces" where we can feel "safe" - erroneously from external dangers, but in actuality from the Anxiety within

Way too late, again. But unlikely to matter.

NSW 7 day case average on the rise, but hospitalisations and ICU remain steady. Testing rates still excellent.

Our CHO will be quivering in anticipation as it is likely SA is about to record one if not two omicron cases. We get perhaps three cases a day, the chances of one being omicron are infinitesimal but here it is. Hopefully properly in isolation pre results.

Omicron good, Delta bad.

Omicron good, Delta bad.
I know. I know. Hopefully that message gets drummed in today at the National Meeting. Whilst in agreement we have to check what the new variant brings, if it is as positive as hoped then allowing it in to take over Delta will be a massive challenge.

Really shouldnt be the case.

3rd dose of PZ has shown to provide protection against omicron and we are still yet to see any serious illness, time to let it rip, so the Delta variant which can be problematic gets sent packing.
