Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Maybe you need to experience chronic pain and kidney issues

My cousin had kidney cancer (as did our grandmother), he went and got vaccinated as soon as it opened to over 50s because with one kidney you dont play chicken with the virus you get vaccinated.

Its terrible that two people who were ineligible for vaccines have died, but i have less sympathy for the other 27 deaths in this outbreak as all had ample time to get at least one dose, most to get two. If you dont avail yourself of the protection offered by a vaccine and are a vulnerable person then you are choosing to accept risk of serious illness and death.

NSW - in the community while infectious ...from the NSW Health daily report

138 were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 32 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Fifty-one cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 98 cases remains under investigation.

will *all* be “this current outbreak” from here on in

Well if you want to use totals then the Vic numbers goes up to 820 (800 during 2nd wave) and NSW is 83 (29 during this second wave, there were none in Northern Beaches).

I still cant see NSW surpassing Vic death toll given vaccines are now in play.

Quite sad you think NSW is tracking for a Vic second wave type disaster, when the numbers show that is not the case, becomes pathetic if you are willing it to happen.

NSW Health daily report has today not reported the coughulative total of cases under investigation.

Last count yesterday was 1488. Add today's 194.

So a possibility they went backwards......sad times.

Not according to the Victorian leader's suggestions to some other areas........but I digress, back to the numbers. Delta is a game changer

Yes it is.

Personally I think Delta will keep leaking out of HQ and so if you want 28 days of no cases to end lockdown you will never get out of lockdown as new cases will either leak from HQ, or across a state border.

This is the new norm till we reach a high vaccination level, and at that time we will be living with Covid and ongoing cases.

A whole thesis could be written about the problems in that paragraph.

You just don’t understand the numbers.

No i stand by it, this current outbreak has had 29 deaths not tracking for 800.
Hopefully not, but there is still a good chance, given NSW and Australia's caseload will soon be 1,000 per day, then 2,000 per day, then 3,000 per day and so on. Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

NSW: The breakdown of location for the 319 cases

NSW Health shared a breakdown of the cases as per the local health districts (LHDs).
  • 112 from South Western Sydney
  • 98 from Western Sydney LHD
  • 57 from Sydney LHD
  • 23 from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD
  • 20 from South Eastern Sydney LHD
  • Seven from Northern Sydney LHD
  • Two from the Hunter New England LHD

Advice from friends in Sydney to us in Perth is to get out and enjoy life before the inevitable virus hits us.
Our hospitals are already struggling with too many patients and too few nurses and doctors.
We have been trying to get all of our hundred staff across Australia vaccinated but we know we have hold outs. That is something I just cannot understand.
Due for fly to WA for paeds dental appt and family visit mid December and don't think that's gonna happen. NT and WA surely be in Lockdown. Every state will be in Lockdown in the next couple of months. Turning very pessimistic.

Slightly off topic, maybe government should build separate COVID hospitals in every capital city along with purpose built quarantine centres. How many cross infected patients going in for ingrown toenail or tonsils removed will have to die by getting infected by COVID patients through transmission before powers that be change their minds.

Then there's the 10-20% permanently unvaccinated that we have to care for when they get infected in the coming years. If Scomo and premiers keep their work, we'll have international tourism sometime next year that will compound issues for unvaccinated.

Im worried about qld coming out of lock down - Firstly- The Victoria situation- the came out of lock down - only to go back in week later. Secondly - NSW situation- more regional areas getting added to lock down. Thirdly- delta Strain. I dont now whether they will have some areas released from lock down like scenic rim sunshine coast- but cant see brisbane itself due to the 10 000 people in home isolation and numbers in the double digits.

from NSW Health daily report

Of the 319 locally acquired cases reported to 8pm last night, 112 are from South Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 98 are from Western Sydney LHD, 57 are from Sydney LHD, 23 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 20 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, seven are from Northern Sydney LHD, two are from Hunter New England LHD.

Today, NSW Health can confirm four new cases of COVID-19 in the Newcastle area, bringing the number of cases in the area to eleven. Two of the four new cases are linked to previously announced cases and the source for two cases remains under investigation.

NSW Health has also been notified of two cases in Armidale overnight. These cases are a woman who is a close contact of a known case in the Newcastle area, where she visited overnight recently, and a household contact of hers.

To protect the people of NSW from the evolving COVID-19 outbreak, new restrictions will be introduced for the Armidale Regional LGA including the major town of Armidale and the town of Guyra, from 5pm today until 12.01am Sunday 15 August.

Not sure how to read it - some after 8pm???

So cases and hospitalisations starting to trend down

But I doubt any of our leaders are going to be comfortable with those figures.

It's wrong. HNE have their own graphics on their facebook site. And these were verbally briefed by Brad Hazzard.

Yes if overnight they will not be part of the 319 as that is till 8PM

It's likely someone counted the Newcastle cases in another district - Judging by the contact tracing locations in the media yesterday before 8pm there were more than 2 cases confirmed yesterday.

But I think we can all agree that was possibly the worst press conference in the history of this pandemic, miscounting/confusion of the NHE stats are probably way down the list of problems with it.

I don't know what is right or wrong - for completeness, NSW Health counted in the following daily report dates:

5/8 - 1 Central Coast LHD, 1 Hunter New England LHD
6/8 - 4 Hunter New England LHD
7/8 - 2 Hunter New England LHD.

Great news. But the UK is mostly AZ, and many vaccinated long before Delta took up shop.
Read about Pfizer: Israel says Pfizer Covid vaccine is just 39% effective as delta spreads, but still prevents severe illness

Now if Australia uses lots of Pfizer, spaced only 3 weeks apart - Canada has a longer interval, then the Australian and USA graph will show a different story relative to UK - especially if the elimination fairy story is still being imagined. Yes, deaths and hospitalizations down.

When WA and TAS work this out, they will reject the 80% argument, point to Israels breakthrough numbers, and stay closed. Also UK got hit hard, and their people got wised up. Australia was molly coddled, and so far, there is no incentive to get the jab. I conclude Australia should do a Canada, and mix N match vaccines with well spaced boosters.

In fact some 1A groups are still less than 25% vaccinated, even with no waiting for Pfizer, such as in NT. Pretty obvious what opening up will do.
