Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Is there something you have read to indicate that she shouldn't have been eligible in the first place, or for a renewal?
I wouldn't have thought so. The news stories state that she has in the past kept some dubious company not that she was involved in the very serious events surrounding that dubious company.

From the ABC

Victoria records another new unlinked local case

In the past hour, Victoria Health has been advised of another case.
Mr Foley said they weren't a confirmed close contact and developed symptoms on Monday night.
They were tested on Tuesday.
The person works at the Mooney Valley Racecourse drive-through testing centre as a traffic controller and worked at least two days while infectious.
But Mr Foley said there was "minimal risk" to the centre, but it has been closed and everyone who worked on the same shifts as that cases has been sent home.
He said this was very early information at this stage.
So will only be being interviewed right now.

VIC: Three days to investigate today's new case

Professor Sutton said the man was tested very quickly after being symptomatic.
That means there's one day of having symptoms and then it's assumed he was infectious for the two days before that.
He said that means there's only a three-day window in which the traffic controller was out in the community.
But we'll hear more about that when exposure sites drop later today.
So the big question is who he got it off. And if there has been a growing unknown transmission chain.

Well so far only Tier2 Exposure sites from the new case (only found late this morning).

Yesterday Sydney/NSW had a positivity rate of 0.203% and today its 0.187% - I'm guessing the high positivity rates during this current outbreak.

Given the proximity of the Moonee Valley testing site to ground zero of this outbreak (Maribyrnong) I thought they might be more local! I wonder if they drove to work?

They look to live in Frankston and so one would assume that they drove. Moonee Valley is on the other side of the CBD. They also filled up with fuel early on Monday and so perhaps on the way to work.

Note that MCG and AAMI Park seeding spread the cases far and wide in one outbreak. The other outbreak from the quarantine breaker stayed more local.

At my local drive through testing center the traffic controllers do interact with people to give directions, ask them to pre-register via the a QR code, check that they aren't getting a test for travel purposes, it's certainly possible that they have gotten it from someone who turned up for testing.

Yeah just thinking about that, surprised she got an ASIC if they did a proper background check.
Exactly what Mr Seat0A said last night, and that it probably should not be renewed for a person not willing to comply with the rules.

…case law precedent says if you lie to your employer (about anything basically) you destroy the trust that must exist in an employment relationship and consequent termination of employment is not unreasonable. Considering the consequences of the FA’s lies I think she has done a pretty good job of destroying the employment relationship.

ABC's report/summary of today's announcement of changes to the Sydney extended lockdown

Sigh... so still 'lockdown light'? I mean shopping within a 10km radius rather than just 5km in Victoria? It sort of seems to send the wrong message.

You can still go past the 10km if you can't find the item you need.

Oh dear.. NSW appears to be going down the mockdown Swedish/UK route .. ‘you should’, ‘we encourage’….interpreted by many as ambiguous, optional and therefore does NOT apply to me…so much of this was avoidable …….

Is it really relevant how they frame it. NSW will be in restrictions for the next 3 months - everyone there should fully prepare for that. All states except possibly WA will also likely be the recipient of spillover infections due to the difficult nature of Delta. Those here in Victoria patting themselves on the back for "defeating Delta like Sydney couldn't" (a catch cry I've heard at work today) are holding a prize of fool's gold.

No matter what happens, COVID was going to reach us in big numbers. Simple answer is it has happened before we were ready, vaccination wise. Now begins the work to ensure we don't fall any further behind the enemy.

I don't think it is fare to compare Sydney to Melbourne when it comes to beating the virus using lockdowns. One is a beginner why the other is a season veteran.

I was not aware of this and may have been mentioned before but almost half the current covid cases in NSW are aged under 30. May be why NSW is so keen to get the younger age groups vaccinated as soon as possible.

It is funny isn’t it. “My lockdown was harder than yours”, “we beat Delta” etc etc. Insane grandstanding that has little fact to back it up.

Is there any evidence that a 10km radius is worse than a 5km radius? Why not 2? Why not 3? Where are the transmissions happening? Well at work and at home. So remind me what the shopping radius does?

Been to a Sydney park lately? At least 10 times are many people as usual. No QR codes. Impossible to trace people. Yet why have they not become “super spreader events”?

Cements the fact that people are more interested in hard and punishing lockdowns than actually trying to deal with this virus. The focus now is not “get to zero”, it’s “keep it under control until enough people are vaccinated”.

Obviously if Sydney went into lockdown after 3 days & melb went into LD after 11 days, I'm sure the roles world be reversed.

Melb were quick to act & hopefully out of a mess for now(until LD 6.0) while Sydney tried what's worked for them previously, although not Delta & unfortunately failed to contain it.
I'm not so sure they get back to covid zero.
If not back to zero then I see other states locking NSW out for a long time.
Surely that can't happen or be any good for anybody.
What will happen with NSW?

The median age is 38 and a sizable percentage of people older than that have been vaccinated, so there's nothing particularly surprising there.
