Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

The man in question was positive and had been ordered to quarantine. He decided to go shopping instead, every day for five days!

If the reports are true, suggesting visiting 25 stores in 5 days that would have to be very deliberate, that surely doesn’t happen by accident whilst shopping for essentials.

Responding to your understanding they were positive t, that’s not what I read/understood

An example extract

Lake Macquarie MP, Greg Piper, said the two contacts have tested negative, but one visited 25 shops in five days when they should have been isolating.

Fair enough.

On the other matter, whether other members of the household should isolate seems unclear. A spouse/flat mate who can use a separate bedroom and bathroom seems to let the rest of the household leave the premises. Those people should always take extra precautions in my thinking by always wearing a mask and keeping their distance. Where the household cannot separate, all should quarantine.

I genuinely fear she's going to try and open up parts of Sydney.

It’s time for this to happen. There are plenty of parts of Sydney that are simply not seeing any cases (or virtually none). It’s the same approach that’s been taken in border communities such as Coolangatta. I can’t be sure, but I would suspect the virus is not genuinely observing the arbitrary NSW/Qld state line.

Clearly, “COVID Zero” is not happening. It’s never been achieved long term, it’s not realistic and it’s also not needed. It’s time for NSW to accept this, accept that the state is now operating at a different level to the rest of the country (for now - there will be another hotel quarantine breakout in then next week or so) and to start changing its approach. This means reopening parts of Sydney, starting to apply different standards to vaccinated people and, while this won’t happen right away, start allowing international arrivals without hotel quarantine.

Hopefully NSW Health haven't missed another micro-level opportunity.

Given the close to 100% strike rate through households, entire households should be isolating with ADF and Healthcare brought in to assist with welfare, and essentials with Police back up / called in if someone / everyone is not at home.

I do know sometimes the positive case is relocated to a Special Health Accomodation, but I think the rest of the household should still isolate.

Unfortunately, I've heard mixed messages.

This is right next to the airport and very much outside the 'problem' LGAs. Quite possibly many workers from there though.

Well the strategy is for critical to be open and specific business to be closed one by one as worksites arise. I wonder how much cross-contamination occurs across the industry (eg a driver for more than one logistics hub?)

Well I would like to be able to report that the virus has not spread to my house, but ...

The test I had on Saturday wasn't taken to the lab until today, Monday. *sigh*

Good thing I got toilet paper last week.
COVID has been stamped out at my house. -ve test came back this morning. :)

Did they explain Dr Chants absence again? I find her deputy to be a pretty weak communicator.

Sounds like some of regional NSW is being released as well.

No explanation that I noticed (but I'm not always 100% focussed when the NSW authorities press conference is on!). From my observation, there is never an explanation given on the occasion the NSW Premier or NSW CHO is absent.

I would guess the NSW CHO is working on putting as much information/data to back her professional opinion of a tougher lockdown. Unfortunately NSW Government seems to be focussed on the economic cost of a lockdown.

Bracing for a two-tier lockdown to be announced tomorrow.

Another news.com.au poll

Should (I assume Sydney) restrictions be tightened on area-by-area basis?
34% - No - we're all in this together and it won't help
66% - Yes - we need to target restrictions where they are needed

Sydney will be locked down all of August, almost certainly. It is so cruel seeing the sheeple drip fed with news. Delta is nasty, and has a high rate of breakthrough infections, even if fully vaccinated. The limp and unsatisfactory nailing of protestors, mean scofflaws abound. I hope police use cordon tactics to photograph, process and fine each and every spreader+protestor, and make each and every one+family spend 14 days in quarantine.

The Federal govt can help out here, by signalling there will be a medicare levy surcharge changes, around un-vaccinated persons(some medical exceptions), and no- or halved covid assistance payments to the unvaccinated after December 30 .

While vaccination number do keep increasing still plenty of evidence they aren't increasing enough so tend to agree we will need to see some sticks as well as carrots shortly.

Over here in WA two unvaccinated hospital workers have been placed in hotel quarantine for 14 days after they unknowingly entered a lift that had been used to transport a critically ill COVID patient to ICU. Not together...on two separate occasions. Words fail me 🙄

Leaks starting to out she is announcing a extension until August 27. Construction is good however restrictions around that industry will apply.
