Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It sounds like to be fair to other passengers originating in less risky countries that they should only permit Indian originating pax into Howard Springs and not into the hotel system.

Not fair that the single riskiest exposure to covid for some is not being in the country they came from, but sitting in the hotel room in HQ in Australia. (Sounds more riskier than a plane, with the current caps if you take an economy seat, you can easily socially distance and wear an N95 mask and safety glasses, which you won't do in hotel room in HQ).

I do believe they are calling each passenger, just responding to the anti 3AW poster.

The positive test came thru at 2am, while the man & family were doing the absolute correct thing which I applaud. very commendable.

Maybe I'm being tedious, but with 200 passengers, how long would it take for VicDH / contact tracers to gain the manifest of all passengers of the flight? any privacy issues etc holding it up? Then by midday the caller hadn't been contacted yet, while her partner was already at work & how many other instances like this could of been happening, passengers at work, on public transport etc.

A positive case on a plane, no matter what's claimed by the airline hepa filters etc, the +case could've used the bathroom early in in the flight, taken mask off in bathroom, blew/wiped his nose, coughed whatever, touched the door handle / door & others could've been infected via that method.
We've heard how quick this virus can move & settle on surfaces.
Others use bathroom & head off to work on trains today.

The speed to contacting these ppl's is all I'm questioning, I'm not at all blaming anyone, gov, airlines or nobody. Just pondering worst case scenario here, I can see transmission get out & about.
Just asking the question & putting it out there.

So test result at 2am.

Process starts.

Person presumably woken and interview commenced one a trained interviewer can get there or call in. Given the time, such interviewer may also have to been woken.

I would suspect that being at 2am not all resources inside and outside VicDDHS would be available. Would the airline be contactable?

If positive test was obtained in daylight hours or early evening most likely would have been quicker.

However overall it would seem pretty quick to me.

If he was contagious those people that he may have infected on the flight, or post flight, would not yet be infectious themselves in all likelihood and they will all be placed in quarantine before they are.

Not waiting for them to present for testing is what gets in front of the transmission chain.

Agree I think we are now at the point where anyone who has been in India in the past 14 days should be going to Howard Springs. Clearly the quarantine we have, while good, is not perfect and the risk is high.

Quarantine is only as strong as the weakest link in the chain. If you are treated the same coming from Singapore as India and placed in quarantine rooms next to each other, then yes I would say we have a problem that needs to be sorted.

The India numbers are but the tip of the iceberg.

Actually just on that and noting the new Ventilation assessment of the Four Points Hotel done recently it seems to contradict what was said on 1 st Feb after the HQ breach at that time.

After nearly 10 months with no community cases, a security guard in his twenties contracted COVID-19 after working at Sheraton Four Points in Perth, throwing the majority of the state's population into a five-day lockdown.
Questions over air conditioning
Authorities confirmed the Sheraton Four Points hotel was still being used as a quarantine facility, but said guests could remain confident in its safety.
Mr McGowan has assured people there was no risk from the hotel's air conditioning.
"The air conditioning is not a recycled system inside the hotel ... it vents to the atmosphere," he said.
"The advice we have is the air conditioning system is safe and there is no evidence that there is any problem with the air conditioning."

So deemed safe then, but rated high risk now after an actual assessment by an engineer. One wonders what the previous assessment was based on?

AMA is hinting that Perth will go into lockdown for 3 days due to their local case.... it is definitely being considered. Let’s hope not and they act sensibly.

I bet there is a big dummy spit about HQ arrivals (again) as a part of the announcement.

Panic buying has commenced in Perth.

I probably ‘panic fly’ straight out of there to escape their mad state government if I was there to be honest

A lockdown again? Where is there even one case in the community?

This is ridiculous. Lucky my trip was a fortnight ago.
