Either way I'm still unhappy with the way SA Health have handled the increased numbers. We got crickets from them, only their bare minimum, cut-and-paste daily updates that were exactly the same when we were suddenly at 19 cases as they were when they were ten times less at 0-2 cases. If covid leakage from quarantine is no great surprise then SA Health should have been alerting everyone, not just carrying on exactly like they had for the preceding months when there were hardly any cases and acting like there was nothing to be concerned about.

It’s had failings in multiple states, not just Victoria. Isn’t the spread in SA a failing of quarantine? All it takes is a couple of large families and ‘vulnerable’ workplaces and off it goes.

That is the current understanding. I guess I meant that it was only in Victoria that it got more out of hand. On the other hand, currently in SA, we may follow suit.

How many times does SA Health need to tell us to wash our hands etc before the message fails? What exactly, would you want the message to be? What should they be alerting us to that we don't already know?

I have never had the message that there was nothing to be concerned about. All the cancellations of things like Christmas Carols, TDU, City Bay Fun Run, restrictions at cricket, cancellation of many events well into 2021 - surely that sends a message? Well, it did to me.

Evidently 15 of today's cases are in one family.

2 are in aged care.

1 is a Hungry Jacks worker.

It may seem counter intuitive but a surge in cases now will be as SA Health will be doing the right thing with rapid testing and third ring.

Yes unfortunate it got out and has a headstart before being found, but the important thing is the measures now rolled out and the speed that they are.

Breaches will happen from time to time. This was always said and should be expected.

Seventeen new cases linked to Adelaide northern suburbs coronavirus cluster


The new cases are linked to four community cases announced yesterday.

Nicola Spurrier said the Port Adelaide Hungry Jack's has closed because a staff member worked there while infectious.

Mawson Lakes Primary School and Preschool and the Parafield Plaza Supermarket have also closed.

Thomas More College in Salisbury Downs also announced it was closing today because of a positive coronavirus case.


SA Health yesterday said an 80-year-old woman tested positive after being treated at the Lyell McEwin Hospital in the city's north.

She had visited the supermarket on Thursday.

Two of her close contacts — a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s — have also tested positive for the illness.

Another person connected with the Yatala Labour Prison was also diagnosed.

Two of the new cases worked while infectious at an aged care facility that Dr Spurrier would not name, as did the Hungry Jack's restaurant staff member.

Seventeen new cases, including aged care workers, linked to Adelaide coronavirus cluster

Two schools, a fast food restaurant and a supermarket close because of connections with positive cases, while two staff worked while infectious at an aged care home.

There goes our road trip to SA starting Nov 30. Mrs SS is a health professional in NSW and can't risk ending up in a quarantine situation. We will defer to Feb 2021.

Maybe we should stop having quarantine facilities in the middle of cities. The way we are approaching the virus in many parts of the country is that one case is a disaster, so why have overseas arrivals quarantining in CBDs with workers who walk in & out of the hotels and back in to the general community?

The apartment that we are renovating is adjacent to Port Adelaide. Our work office is in Port Adelaide. We both need to ramp up our precautions now.

And test all workers who work in them. The reality is that we dont have the facilities to do this anywhere but major cities.

Will be interesting to hear if SA if they are moving immediately to third ring isolation.... the reporting hasn't picked that up from the press conference yet...

Experts are saying this is going to keep on happening in city based hotel quarantine facilities....

The virus is highly transmissible, and people and products are not 100% perfect. So anywhere with regular CV19 is likely to have a breach sooner or later whether it be hotel-quarantine, hospitals, ports, airports etc.

In terms of their conduct , for this group Covid does not exist..

I think it is fair to say that in the states that haven't had much community transmission have largely forgotten it exists in terms of adhering to social distancing, hygiene etc. Certainly from living in Brisbane I observe that.

Combine this with the fact their health systems haven't been stress tested / battle hardened like VIC and NSW means that they are going to be vulnerable when there is an inevitable outbreak.

I just hope that our bigger states with better systems, procedures and experience actually HELP (because there is no Federal infrastructure that's for sure) rather than throw rocks at the states that go through outbraks. That is why I was so happy to hear VIC jumped in straight away to offer assistance last night.

I did ask upthread what was the testing regime for border/quarantine workers around Australia? I think NZ is now 7 or 14 depending on type of worker

PS I would have been more comforted if Australia got down to every 3 days until 12-14 days after last shift.

Silly that they hadn't been.

Look at Victoria - over 3500 healthcare workers - aged care, nurses, doctors infected - and all of them would have been taking precautions.

Tas Premier just announced recent ( past week) arrivals asked to self isolate and to contact health dept. 900 people.

SA still being classed as low risk BUT there will be an update this afternoon and passengers on direct flight from Adelaide this afternoon being warned to defer travel
