...and quite likely an unlicensed driver banned from driving until 2028 or so....

Meanwhile the 'debt collectors' are sent around to collect 'robodebts'.

There are those who know how the system works - and abuse it massively and then there are those who try their best to do the right thing (most of the time).

Guess which group causes society more trouble?

Speaking of trouble....

With all the disturbing information coming out from the latest round of the Aged Care Royal Commission....

A well-informed individual mentioned that perhaps NSW is more exposed to an increase in 'serious' CV cases due to some cost saving introduced by the then State Govt in 2007. It seems that 'true' infectious diseases safe bed numbers can be counted with one's fingers at Sydney's major hospitals. The recent (2020) expansion of ICU capacity has (according to reports) not involved any new real construction - just repurposing of existing spaces.

WHY?

Only single digit number of beds at each major hospital have their own self-contained -ve pressure air conditioning ducted enclosure to prevent cross-contamination. Otherwise there is very little difference between the hospitals & the nursing homes (other than staff qualifications). The air-con is a daisy-chain system going along multi-opening ducting. This was identified some years ago by an exercise conducted at Sydney Airport with a flight arriving that contained travellers with an extremely infectious disease - how prescient! Pity there was no funding to rectify the multiple issues uncovered since then.

However with 44% of hospital staff incorrectly taking off their masks & close to 80% not disposing of them 'safely' - things can easily go wrong if we're unlucky.

For example, a number of shift change conferences are still conducted in the same meeting rooms (say 4m x 3m) with that ward's 14 nurses going off-shift in the room together with the 14 nurses about to start - with the 14 about to start not wearing masks yet (protocol - only put on before approaching patient if applicable) and virtually all of the leaving nurses not wearing a mask either. 28 people into 12 sq metres (including tables) does not provide much social distancing opportunity.

Hopefully there are many major hospitals where this is not happening.

Perhaps explains why there are 1,000+ hospital staff in Vic who have tested +ve (close to 1 in 6 of active cases) BUT still claimed by Vic CMO that they did not contract it at their workplace despite the claims that nearly all non-hospital cases are from their non-hospital workplaces.

Common sense continues to not be so common these days.
I don’t know where you got the handover info. But I can tell you from my real life experience that it isn’t happening in my corner of NSW Health. All staff are masked from start of shift until the end, including hand overs.

Sports centre closes after child tests positive

A sports centre in Sydney has been forced to close after a child who played netball there tested positive for coronavirus.
The Robyn Webster Sports Centre in Tempe in the city's inner west has been closed for deep cleaning.
The child played a netball game there on August 8.
"As a precaution, we immediately closed the venue and deep cleaned all public areas,” the Inner West Council said in a statement.
The centre is due to reopen tomorrow.

So NSW has 9 cases today and NZ has 13. Does this make NSW safer than NZ now? As the saying goes "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."
I'll just repeat what anyone who has studied statistics will tell you, one data point does not make a trend. Anyone who tries to make it so is no statistician and those who try and lie about numbers usually have no training in statistics. Those who believe these lies equally so.

Unfortunately yes, dealers are very enterprising and offer delivery services. These days they'll tend to have a menu that they will send you, which you can order off and even bargain down the price a bit if you're buying enough.

Not in NSW, but as I have mentioned before the hospital that my daughter is at and which has 4 covid wards moved to all staff being masked at all times on 1 July.

At work the room that the staff member is in determines the type of mask worn. Covid 19 Positive and Possible areas are N95 Dukcbill areas. Many mask changes will occur each shift and each time hands will be sanitised.

The facemask worn to work is removed on arrival.

Her hospital does not feature in the news for infected workers.

There was $205m or $850m targeted at covid-19 measures in the sector....and Vic is basically a multi-home version of Newmarch

Yes, I mentioned up thread the $850 million coping with Covid plan we paid for but seems to have been an abject failure according to the inquiry. Hopefully, this sector will get a major shakeup.

Ok. 3PM in Melbourne and in past times peak hour would be well underway and the roads very full.

The live cameras show that the roads have an extraordinarily low amount of traffic on them for this time of day:

You seem surprised ... or at least that it is worthy of noting. After, what, 2 weeks of stage 4 lock down, I would have thought that would have been the norm now. Or has there been a long tail, and its finally gone quiet?

What in my wording makes you think I am surprised?

or at least that it is worthy of noting.

You may have missed it but one poster reported that one TV show stated that Melbourne's activity levels as of not having dramatically decreased. So hence that is why I and several others have noted in reports of how it has reduced, both with livefeed cameras as well as data monitoring sources.

Another poster directly asked what their observations on current activity in Melbourne is.

A number of posters including myself have since made posts on activity levels in Melbourne including the roads, public transport, foot traffic.

Activity levels have also regularly been posted in this thread prior.

After, what, 2 weeks of stage 4 lock down, I would have thought that would have been the norm now. Or has there been a long tail, and its finally gone quiet?

See earlier in the thread.

South Australia's cluster that saw 80 students put into Hotel Isolation and another 1000 people in self iso has been declared "almost over" after the five initial positives (returning traveller from Vic) were detected. This cluster involved several ethnic and nationality groupings. An exerpt today where the nationailities of the people were identified.

"He (referring to a positive in overseas quarantine) is among seven “active” – or infectious – patients, including the cluster source, an Afghan man aged in his 20s from Blair Athol who returned from Victoria.
His close female friend, a Thebarton Senior College student aged in her 20s, is ill, as is her Afghan student mate, also in her 20s, and a Walkers Arms hotel cleaner, aged in his 50s, who had a 20-minute chat with the male source.

A fourth Afghan student, 26, has recovered. The last of more than 1400 family, friends and other contacts will on Saturday leave hotel quarantine or self-isolation at home.

Close contacts included migrant students from the Middle East, Africa, China and other parts of Asia. Many were separated from family but most return to school on Monday.

“I’m very grateful for the co-operation of all the young people involved as I recognise this has been a very stressful time,” Prof Spurrier said.

"Prof Spurrier said when the state’s fifth cluster became apparent on July 30, a “key factor that enabled us to manage (it) was reaching out to the community … in a timely manner”.

After urgent talks with more 20 cultural leaders, translated information was sent to more than 5000 community members and special language hotlines launched to manage inquiries.

In contrast, Victoria had failed to adequately communicate with its own migrant communities, which fuelled a surge in cases.

Mosques and community centres were shut across Adelaide’s northern suburbs while public alerts were issued about several businesses. Prof Spurrier gave out her personal number to the leaders and urged them to contact her at any time.

Afghan United Association chairman Hussain Razaiat, 47, said it was important the community listened to official advice."

At that time, there was a panic, and some state of fear (in) the community, in particular from new arrivals, who had come from oppressed regimes,” he said.

“We assured them they must co-operate with the government … to successfully stop it spreading. We are pleased it has been stopped so everybody can get back to normality.”

Multicultural Youth SA chief executive Tamara Stewart-Jones, 36, said her staff volunteered help with food, advice and supplies “24-7”.

My Bold above.😁

What makes you think it was in your wording? ;) It was the fact that you thought necessary to post it that surprised me, given the timing into Victoria's lock-down. Sorry, this thread gets so bogged down in seemingly endless, or rather hundreds upon hundreds of lines of Victorian cases, Victorian LGA statistics, tables, bullet points, classifications, with bolding etc etc that I now but skim over a lot of it. If you had referenced the posts you were apparently replying to, we would have better appreciated the context. No biggie. That said, I recall your reporting during Stage 3 that there were few people walking about where you were, whereas at the same time people were posting and lamenting that there was still so many pedestrians about where they were, not social distancing, that the cams link was useful to illustrate the traffic. Long may it continue.

You must have gone AWOL as it has been a discussion point in the thread of late.

As to your views on the number of posts on Victoria of late, do you not think that this is just reflective of the the number of cases and deaths in Victoria of late?

If? Go back and re-read. When they first posted I did exactly that.

No one, and I repeat no-one reposts continually each and every time the original post. You do it as I did the first time, and then you stop (and I note you did not include original post in your most recent reply either. So you do not practice what you preach) as otherwise threads would become unworkable.

Others then also make comments, as they have done this time and the thread goes on.

Hopefully people find this NSW update useful..

Has the Qld Premier or Police decided to go light touch today?

Hundreds gather to protest in Brisbane

Hundreds of people have gathered at an inner-Brisbane park to protest against the ongoing detention of refugees and asylum seekers at a Kangaroo Point hotel.

The Supreme Court on Friday banned the group from a sit-in on the Story Bridge, but organises moved the midday rally to nearby Raymond Park in Kangaroo Point.

Fines could be handed out to those found to not be social distancing under the state's COVID-19 laws.
