BREAKING: Four coronavirus cases in new Regional NSW cluster, including a baby

Local health authorities in Wagga Wagga have just announced four people, including a baby, have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

They are all from the same family, a 52-year-old woman, her son and daughter-in-law in their 20s and their baby.

These numbers are in addition to the 13 cases announced by the NSW Premier earlier today.

What’s the generic insult name for the men doing stupid and selfish things? Continually insulting Karens is kinda wearing a bit thin.

,

I think the Karen label is along the lines of "a woman perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary "

I had never heard the the term till late last year when my youngest daughter who is studying Psychology at Uni started using it and still uses it till this day. She has had a number of customer oriented roles while she is undertaking her degree, starting in cafe and then moving into retail, and then after the pandemic started and retail closed into CSR call centre work (mainly from home).

Off and on and mainly as it just gives my daughter the chance to vent at the end of her working day she will talk about various issues of her day. Sometimes positive about nice interchanges, and sometimes negative. My daughter states that Karen's have been the bain of her working life and the only group, or even stereotype, that she dreads. And it is not just the "entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is appropriate or necessary", it is the sheer vitriol and abuse that occurs and which she only rarely experiences from others. She certainly gets some other angry customers from time to time, but they in her words seem more motivated by the issue, whereas the Karen's seem more to just want to exercise power.

Yes, and what’s the name for the stupid selfish blokes? We wouldn’t want to discriminate against the blokes because they might feel left out. 😂

...maybe.

I went out to lunch two Fridays ago for the first time in a while. I was asked to sign in but only one person required for each group. I checked the list in front of me. Apparently both "Mickey Mouse" and "Bill Clinton" were at the restaurant at the time. I couldn't spot either of them though. And the person prior had the phone number 0123 456 789. What are the odds? We walked out and we won't be back there again.

I still reckon the contact tracers have an easier job when you can say "I live in a house with Mrs Gremlin and I work with Pete and Steve" than "I ate at <<Restaurant Name>> at lunch last Friday." The chances of finding downstream transmission must be significantly higher if they know to talk to Pete and Steve and Mrs Gremlin rather than trying to find a couple sitting at the next table over.
What the heck is wrong with people? Do they think they are so important their privacy matters more than everyone’s health? I have no time for smart cough like that 😒

I prefer the cruder version myself but on AFF there’s a tendency to call these Richard Craniums. Or I use the simple term a holes.

Adelaide testing clinics hits capacity after fresh community cases

A coronavirus testing clinics in Adelaide has been turning people away, after the state recorded two new cases yesterday prompting a school closure.

A post on the SA Health Twitter account instructs people to try and seek testing at locations other than the Flinder Medical Centre clinic.

Yesterday, two new coronavirus cases were recorded in South Australia.

One was a woman in her 20s who was a close contact of an existing case imported from Victoria. The woman attended Thebarton Senior College, which has been closed for cleaning today.

As far as mask wearing goes for examples in Woolworths, I think I would go with the advice from Norman Swan rather than some random person who would appear not to even have medical qualifications of any type.

I just heard someone say that they were not wearing a mask because it only protects other people and I don’t have the virus. That person can’t know that unless perhaps they’ve been just recently tested negative, and even then I’m sceptical.
The only issue I see is that people will not want to pay for them. Obviously pharmacies are selling them individually for around three dollars each and I think that will inhibit people from buying them as it is too expensive. Perhaps if they were one dollar each ....

I noticed this weekend that my local Coles now sells packs of 50 disposable face masks for $45 - they have never had them before. Chemist Warehouse was selling same type 2 weeks ago for $55. So prices have come down from the gouging during first lock-down where ebay etc was charging over $100 for the same.

A decent 3 layer fabric mask (with pocket for PM2.5 filter) runs $25-$35 each and a pack of 50 PM2.5 filters is $10 on amazon (with free delivery).

Ive been waiting on N95 masks to arrive for 2 weeks now, but readily stocked with 2 * cloth ones, a bunch of filters and 50 disposables, wanted some on hand before NSW makes them mandatory and the price goes up again.

Gladys has said businesses are allowed to have a no mask no entry policy, beyond the state regulations. My nail salon had already implemented this yesterday.

I was just relating her experiences. She does get entitled people of all sorts, but her experience is that they are mainly rare and not from anyone group, that is except for the Karen's where they are not rare.

FYI, her nicest customers are the elderly. She often describe them as "cute" ;)

The detailed NSW weekly reports are interesting reading.

Pages 27 and 28 of the most recent show the common flu has been missing for the past 3-4 months and pneumonia hospitalisations halved versus prior years.

Just a short note into the world as of today

Global confirmed coronavirus cases passes 18 million

Just a quick note about how the rest of the world is faring … there are now more than 18 million confirmed cases of coronavirus around the world.

Figures collated by Johns Hopkins University reveal it took just over three days for the global number of cases to go from 17 to 18 million, suggesting the pandemic is accelerating.

The increase is driven by widespread infections in the United States, Brazil and India.

Just back from WW at Woden. Probably about a half of the shoppers in the store wore masks (including me). I have no problem with the request from WW. They are not insisting, just asking. ACT has indicated that if cases pop up here or in the region then they pretty much would become required. NSW has suggested/recommended masks for when social distancing is problematic including at the supermarket and on public transport.
Chatting to the staff member at the bottle shop there he said a number of people have said they won't shop at WW if they have to wear a mask.

And the other in quarantine anyway from the overseas flight the other day.

Anyone having 50 people over would have to be fair game for a noise complaint!
Agree. We just didn’t need that high number to start with in a home. Better stop the football crowd. Which is Wednesday not tonight.
