Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Yeah, ADL seems almost normal again. Pubs are pretty busy with not a lot of SD going on and the shops and malls are getting back to some normality. Road traffic is just as busy as pre Covid so plenty of people out and about but I have noticed people are a little more careful and aware when entering shops and businesses. There is definitely an element here though that people just don’t give a damn though
I have the funniest story about the gym in Adelaide. The requirement is that everyone must have a towel to immediately wipe down. This guy rocks up, he's wearing the gloves, and the mask, while working out on the equipment 🤷‍♀️ The attendant walks past checking if everyone has a towel as per the requirements. Tick for MrP. Tick for someone else. They guy working out in mask and gloves - he has no towel and was escorted from the gym immediately. 😂

And someone from Victoria on a train into Sydney arrived into Sydney with symptoms and now off to hospital. Never thought I'd say this but other states now need to restrict entry because clearly many are unable to make that decision.
I read a person arrived today at 730am on the Melbourne-Sydney XPT train. The person (male) boarded in regional NSW. He is a NSW resident. He is at an inner city hotel (got tested by ambulance after leaving train I guess) and is awaiting the result.

I need a double agree here. I was out last night and some friends of friends don't think the problem in Victoria is an issue - it's all just overhyped - FFS when are people going to take this thing seriously.

So that suggests community spread then. In NSW regional.

The "trouble" is that hospitals haven't been inundated and death rate is minuscule (of course distressing for family) and a reality is that those who have perished or been seriously unwell have been aged. I can say that, I'm in a risk group. In that sense, I can understand why that is happening. Australia has been too successful, but maybe that will change. There are currently no consequences for Covid in Australia and people can shut off what is happening in the USA etc.

Nsw said they had already taken 30,000 returning travellers and they are asking other states to share the burden.

I think there are a few issues in play here.

NSW set aside around $15m for the hotel quarantine program but costs are approaching $50m. NSW is looking for reimbursement from the other states where passengers have landed and quarantined in Sydney before returning to their home states. The vast majority of these are from Queensland and Victoria.

Yesterday a man from one of the hot spot postcodes in Melbourne arrived on the XPT in Sydney. Brad Hazzard, NSW health minister, laboured the point that this man was transferred to hotel quarantine (rather than self-isolation) at NSW taxpayer expense. NSW government is unhappy that there are no checks at Melbourne train station or airport to prevent people from the hot spot suburbs leaving so they become a NSW problem when they arrive in Sydney.

I wasn't aware of the 50 person per flight cap on international flights to Sydney but this sounds like another example of NSW displeasure with the current situation. I have no idea of international passenger loads on flights into Sydney but would have thought most have more than 50 passengers.

Need our medical knowledge people to tell us how quickly symptoms can show.....say he got on at Albury - that’s 7 hours on the train
Not long enough to catch incubate and develop symptoms. Maybe flu.

He could have the flu. Let us wait for test results first.
I thought it had already been deemed Covid. There’s hope then. We don’t need community spread in NSW

There is also an outbreak of rhinovirus in VIC as well unsurprisingly, it is the season after all. Symptoms virtually indistinguishable.
Yes. DIL who is GP said it’s currently rampant in SA amongst kids and so of course they all get tested for Covid.

The vast majority of returning air travellers have landed in Vic and NSW. NSW propabaly hada diproportiante number of returning cruise passengers by sea. Though returning cruise passengers by air often seem to have arrived in Melbourne on charter flights.

Just as you will have had Vics land in NSW, there will also have been many from NSW and the other states land in Vic.

Quite a number of the flights were dedicated repatriation flights from one country each time (or in the case of India, many repeated such flights) to Australia and so hence passengers were for all states. Many too would have people from NZ on board as their numbers were not high enough to have their own dedicated flight.

There have also been a limited number of scheduled flights which also had returning passengers, but these were to a very limited number of ports. So again passengers disperse.

Dan having a presser between 3-4, not sure if that’s good or bad.
K-Mart store in Brunswick closed due to positive test

I am not sure where your data is from, but this weekly report does not seem to indicate a flu outbreak. Yes the week is up, but it is well below last season and is at a very low level still.

Well on Saturdays when numbers were good the report would typically come out later than a weekday. Anywhere from mid -morning till a bit later.

With Dan being involved at that time you would expect at best that is ok news (ie about the same or hopefully a bit of a decline). I suspect that with Dan involved it may mean that Fleminton/Kensington may be getting locked down as well, unless there is some other point that Dan particularly wants to make or announce.

My daughter was booked (three weeks ago) into an concert event at Flemington where attendees sat in their own cars, and yesterday she was contacted that it had been cancelled on instruction from the Vic Government . Mind you as it was in between hotpot postcodes that may have occurred anyway.
