I agree, why they report based on the end destination boggles the mind. The numbers should count where the infection happens and is treated will there is no longer an infection. Lies, damn lies & statistics. Tell the story around the numbers to make it look the way you want.......
With each infection the powers at be know if they were infected overseas or which region in Australia they gained their infection in, apart from the every shrinking unkowns. It is aaprt of the contact tracing that happens in Australia, unlike in man parts of the world.
When each state reports they tell you on the day if any are
hotel quarantines. So in terms of control of the virus spreading, you discount these as they are not a threat in the virus spreading. If they need to they will also analyses the particular virus to see where it may have come via.
I mentioned earlier the state totals eventually get adjusted to show them in their home state.
You also discount those where local transmission is known, as they are all in isolation.
The number that people need to focus on are the unknown local transmissions. These are the one where you might still be spreading the virus from, the others are all effectively closed off.
Even with the clusters as they are known, the new cases that may spring from them are limited to their close contacts which are also known as so these known clusters are always going to just peter out once the incubation period in the chain stops. There has still been much hand ringing, gnashing of teeth and even panic stops on the clusters but they once known are not really a danger for the virus to keep spreading.
We need to stop fretting so much about what are dead ends. Now if there was an unknown cluster, then you would have a potential spread problem.
There has been very few unknown local transmission for a while. This should be the focus and this is where the control measures should now be focused.
Any new cases to be jumped on with contact tracing, CovidSafe included, isolating etc and testing of all possible close contacts. We now have the resources to do this.
A family of 4 in hotel quarantine in WA irrespective of where they are from is essentially irrelevant in terms of controlling the spread of Covid 19 in Australia except in showing that hotel quarantine needs to stay at present as a control measure for incoming people of from overseas.
