Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

“By no later than midnight on Saturday, States and Territories will be quarantining all arrivals in hotel and other accommodation facilities for two weeks.” SMH

An interesting policy.

However I do have to ask. An air-conditioned hotel without external balcony or windows - does this present a similar environment to cruise ships?

That said this is potentially a great way to assist the hotel sector with business. Governments should be getting a good deal...

The major risk on a cruise ship is not from the air conditioning.Basically a lot of people in close contact with a much greater chance of picking up the virus from surfaces-hard to walk about on a rocking ship without holding on to something.
So unless a major earthquake causes a hotel to shake violently that is much less likely.

So I wonder if those lucky returnees staying at the hotels would have any luck getting those nights credited to their loyalty program? ;)

I think their loyalty reward will be to rejoin society.

Premier just on TV announcing that:
From midnight quarantine for all arrivals in a hotel. Even if you are going on to another state, you’ll be in a Melbourne hotel for 14 days.
Sounds like a very good idea as apparently 2/3 of all new cases are recent arrivals.

In the City there are many many alternatives to go & find your supplies, this is not usually true in the Country. If it's not at your local store then it's a fair drive to the next one.

As this also seeding time or very close to it farmers will have extra staff they have to feed to get the job done & this is already being made a lot more difficult to do with purchasing restrictions currently in place.

There is also a severe lack of Medical Infrastructure in many Country towns. Their relative isolation is one of the main tools they currently have in the fight against COVID19.

Yes it may offend you & some others but I do know of a few small Townships in Country WA that would prefer it that they didn't have a large influx of tourists at the moment. I'm guessing the situation in Victoria would be similar but I'm sure the ones that do want tourists over the coming period will holler out loudly.
I am in one of those Country WA towns. Yes, we do rely on tourism to make a buck, particularly as we are approaching Easter. But, we are in different times. All Australians have to do their bit in fighting this bug, and if that means having to seek Centrelink (for the first time in my life!) for a while and delay travel arrangements, then so be it!

I reported in another thread that there was an interesting story of how hotel quarantine worked in China - they fumigated all the hallways at least once daily - and 'housekeeping' each day consisted of a team people coming in to the room to clean and disinfect every surface.

The windows did open at that particular hotel, but I know many in Australia don't have that option.

Yes, that what Morrison announced earlier and is being discussed here.

Wonder whether you can accrue Hilton (or whatever other hotel) points for the 14 nights?

Unlikely seeing the gov will have negotiated a super low rate that doesn't include frills, similar to several corporate rates where points are excluded.

.

AC is not spreading CV 19.

With the cruise ships you had infected passengers with free access to wander around the ship spreading CV19 and infecting people and crew.

It is also considered that with the Diamond Princess that once in isolation that proper quarantine practices were not followed (especially as some of the crew were infected already) and that further fomite transmission occurred due to this. Especially resusing of food trays, dishes etc.

People returning to Australia can be subject to 28 days of isolation. They will have 14 days quarantine at the entry Port and then they would also be subjected to the 14 day self isolation period if they move to their home state
