And the contact tracing response is all over the Chadstone / Kilmore outbreak. Really reassuring to hear their speed and depth now at this to track down hundreds of people affected in 4 or less hours, it’s now faster than NSW which is great to see they have got the learnings and even improved on them. It’s likely this outbreak will spit out a few more cases but hopefully it’s contained.

Gives us a lot more confidence as everything opens up, that our two biggest states with the most people to protect have the best systems and procedures in place now.

I'm going to throw something out there, what do people think is an acceptable level of community spread and daily cases?

For weeks now various parties, some with vested interests and some without, have been putting pressure on the Victorian government to remove the lockdown. Particularly the opposition and federal treasurer. Yet none of these critics put a number or descriptor on an acceptable level of spread within the community - I suggest it is unlikely that we can have zero spread and no restrictions.

Good to see QLD authorities reacting (as they should) to changing circumstances, and updated information. Nothing should be cast in concrete, this is an evolving health issue and needs continual re-assessment. Good on Dr Young for staying on top of it all, I dont envy her in that onerous role.

While I don't wish it upon any state,
Gosh it would be karma if Qld has an unexplained breakout.

It could dribble out of anywhere........ who knows if anyone will be coherent tomorrow or not......

WA and Qld both had ship change over crew bringing the virus into Australia.

Biggest problem for all states is people returning from overseas and also people coming into Australia for other essential services, like crew changes or planes and also ship crew change over.

Need a way to isolate them all until after they have all been tested.

Once someone has been checked and is found to have the virus they need to be isolated from everyone else.

Could happen anywhere as evidenced by NZ and they still have not been able to work out where it came from.

When state borders are all open (probably excluding WA) there will be community transmission.

It is not an 'IF' question its a 'WHEN' and 'WHERE'.

Whilst it might be karma for it to pop up in QLD because of the divisive language and running commentary they have been heaping on NSW and VIC during their outbreaks, it will need to be a national response to help any state out that has an outbreak.

All states should be helping each other now and we need a national approach moving forward.

I think this will be key really for moving to the next step. Feeling much more positive about it all today.

If one looks at mystery cases over the last 10 days of data (note is lagged by 48hrs) the trend is good with no single day higher than 1. An average of 0.4 per day.

Two weeks ago the average was 2.5 per day, and two weeks before that the average was about 12 mystery cases per day.

And not long ago...

I think a lot of Victorians secretly wish it would happen so other people would know how we feel, its been a pretty cough year for us (more so than people in other states, by a long shot).
And that’s perfectly natural to feel that. It has been bad enough in other states but wretched for those in Victoria. The people we work with in Vic are very stable mature people. And they are just hanging in there. And there is little that anyone can do to fix it.

I think maybe we AFF’ers haven’t commented too much on how cough it has been for you Vics because sometimes that can make it worse for you. But we know. We know.

I don't wish it on anybody.

But the the trends have all been good since the peak, and yet anytime a single day's figure is not so good you see overly negative comments by some outside of Vic which are somewhat annoying.

With cases now so low contact tracing (which is better now now) is more easily able to perform.

So we will soon be in the position to be able to just jump on any new outbreak when it occurs down the track which will happen from time to time (Ie NZ which had at least 4 leakages from outside of NZ in the last 2 months, the WA Iron Ore Carrier etc).

As jakeseven has flagged once Vic suppresses the virus in the very near future we need to become one nation again. Qld imposing restrictions due to sewer tests results in another state is not only stupid, it is damaging to all to act in such a way. We need to be driven by logic and not just fear of the improbable.

Right here and now there should be free travel and interchange between all states and territories except for Victoria. Hopefully in the very near future Vic should be able to join them.

The fully open bubble with NZ will then be a reality, with Pacific Islands not long after.

But sooner or later a new case will occur, and we as a nation just have to be ready to jump on it with the local measures that are required by whatever the situation is.

We also as a nation need to find ways to get more of the Australians currently trapped overseas back home.

Well JY and AP will reset the Qld clock again today, as NSW has 3 cases of community transmission, all unrelated to each other, but all reported after 8pm which means they go into tomorrows numbers.

I think last nights budget should have realigned GST based on population. NSW is heavily subsidising Qld, yet we aren't welcome to visit or spend money there.

I don't actually want it to happen, but some of the comments I've seen from people interstate show that they really have no idea what its like down here. I've seen Queenslanders who think they have it tough right now and are absolutely kidding themselves.

This was one of the best things I saw on facebook that really shows you what our year has been like. The green is the time we've spent in lockdown this year. By the 26th of October (the original date for the next step) we will have been in lockdown for 188 days. The only opportunity we've had to see anyone outside of home (and work if you're lucky enough to go into the office) was four measly weeks in June.

What definition of community transmission are they using? The proper one (ie mystery cases) or their own?

Unclear I only heard the tail end of the presser, as it wouldn't load for me. I understood that all had been found through voluntary testing i.e. not contacts of known cases who were asked to go and get tested. They were in Campbletown (South West), Wollondilly (no idea where that is) and Paramatta (Western) so all different areas of NSW. Obviously as they were only notified late last night, contract tracing is in progress and they may well be able to be linked by the end of the day.

From ABC:

For the first time in almost two weeks health authorities in NSW have discovered locally acquired coronavirus infections.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said three new cases had been discovered in the state overnight.

The cases were in the Campbelltown, Parramatta and Wollondilly local government areas and are not believed to be linked.

The cases were found after the state's 8:00pm reporting cut-off, and will be included in tomorrow's numbers.

There were no locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the most recent testing period, only three cases among travellers in hotel quarantine.
