Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

They are going to be pumping these vaccines into people arms regardless of their effectiveness trust me, no need to worry. They are going to start producing before the trials that’s how much they don’t care about the results.

If it’s 20% effective - perfect! Amazing! You watch the spin machines come out into hyperdrive selling this thing :)

I would have thought businesses would have been at the forefront of wanting a vaccine to succeed?

Opening now is not going to guarantee consumer confidence or guarantee customers are going flock through your doors. Many will wait for a vaccine or the development of other treatments before going on holiday or resuming normal activity.

Seems odd for businesses to be so negative in their outlook?

Victoria up a little again today I heard. 76 new cases and 11 deaths. And Victoria's contact tracing system being reviewed and hopefully significantly improved.

The contact tracing has already been beefed up, new systems, additional resources and also regional centres being set up in preparation for opening, its under a constant state of review I guess but a lot has already happened.

Australia’s vaccine.....oh dear

Is anyone surprised? These vaccines are being raced along at the speed of light. They are going to hit some speed bumps. We cannot rely on them being fully effective or arriving on our doorstep anytime soon, there are too many variables. Which is why we just need to figure out a covidsafe way of living until the miracle vaccine arrives :)

Well its too late mate for NSW, QLD and VIC to pursue elimination and perhaps even the ACT which can’t remain an island within NSW really. There could even be a travel bubble with the eastern seaboard and NZ according to Scomo.

Even if these powerhouse states moved on together it would go a long way to getting us moving again, and once job keeper shrivels up and job seeker supplements disappear the other states are going to be in a very very tricky situation.
The problem is that some States are doing quite nicely. Consider WA. Some of their measures are excessively draconian but, apart from those directly affected, no-one cares. Imagine what would happen if the Premier changed direction and decided that suppression was the way to go and opened up the borders.

That's the trouble with letting the tribalism genie out of the bottle, it's very hard to put back.

Don't worry, before Melbourne cup day, there will be announcement (perhaps not in Australia though) about the "a tremendous vaccine, a vaccine like no other, the best vaccine the world has ever seen" being ready for roll out later this year ;):(

And being rolled out faster than any previous vaccine ever, more effective than ever before, etc., etc. ...

Queensland 8 cases today!!!

It's ok, this is the new covid normal seeing cases pop up. Trust me, walking around Brisbane you aren't seeing any panic. We need to keep calm and just do the best we can without running for the hills...

Plus in the AFL party house hosted by Anna and Dr Young they aren't panicking so why should we! 😂

So my father had anaphalyxis when he was given penicillin for pneumonia. Almost killed him as he was on a naval ship at the time and the allergy was not known. Yet penincillin is still an anitbiotic of choice in many infections. One reaction in what is it? 30,000? Will be interested to see what has happened.

Two more places on 4 September in suburban Ipswich added to Qld contact tracing yesterday.

I’m guessing more will be added soon as a result of today’s cases.

According to the BBC this is actually the second time the testing has been suspended while an illness in a participant is investigated. The important point made is that the testing is immediately suspended if a participant goes to hospital with any illness and the cause is not immediately apparent. The article also says that it is thought the testing would re-commence in a few days.

A relevant quote from a modeller of Vic health plan...courtesy abc Covid live blog

"The results of our modelling demonstrate quite clearly the risks of going into this up-down yo-yo oscillation issue, and this isn't just an issue for Victoria … it's an issue for Australia."

The modelling report showed that in 640 of 1,000 simulations of the virus's spread, reopening with 25 or more cases a day led to a resurgence requiring restrictions to be reimposed.

.....so as Vic Premier said, not even 50-50. I assume the modeller is referring to Melbourne having 25 new cases per day.

Gladys must immediately slam the border shut to this huge threat coming out of SE Qld.
NSW Premier knows Qld border restrictions are already ensuring Qlders (outside the bubble zone) aren’t ‘allowed‘ out into NSW lol....need to arrive at airport and do quarantine on re-entry

It’s an easy way to grab a hell of a lot of “clicks” given the ray of hope this vaccine is giving the world.

According to news.com.au covid blog, nsw reports 9 cases today, including 1 in quarantine.....still waiting for nsw health Twitter/media releases to confirm

Of the nine new cases to 8pm last night, one is a returned overseas traveller in quarantine, seven are linked to a known case of cluster and one – in South Eastern Sydney – has no known source.

According to NSW Health, one case attended Tattersalls City Gym, and one is a household contact of a previously reported case linked to the CBD cluster. Both of these cases were isolating.

There is now a total of 68 cases linked to the CBD cluster.

Five of the locally acquired cases are linked to Concord Hospital, including two healthcare workers, one patient and two household contacts of the patient.

The two healthcare workers worked at the hospital while potentially infectious but reported having no symptoms while at work and wore personal protective equipment while caring for patients. Contact tracing is underway.

edit: numbers confirmed on nsw health twitter
