Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Are many of these same contractors called 'bouncers' when employed at night time? Cause they're all fine, upstanding and intelligent employees... How could anything have gone wrong?
I did hear, maybe fake news, they were from the Casino which of course was closed.

Likely all states used private contractors but that the issue is about what they were trained in with regards to infection control, effective spacing etc etc. I'm sure there are many lessons to be learned but given that Victoria is the only state impacted in such a manner then maybe it's just their lesson to learn.

Yes that's right, bouncers are unintelligent, non-upstanding employees. Amazing point - fair analysis, well thought out.

Maybe just bad luck that the ones Vic used did the wrong things or the company employing them didn’t have good training in the new procedures in Melbourne. Just takes one weak link in the chain.

The employing company probably used some of these people:

Some of Marvel Stadium’s controversial crowd controllers are among hundreds of security guards who have had their licences suspended as part of an alleged fraud that could affect top Melbourne venues and sporting events.

Far too many dodgy 'training organisations' who issue qualifications upon payment rather than demonstrating competency.

Cops can't be rented, what are you talking about. Police are employed by the government. This isn't Facebook, fight fake news  😂
They used a private security company and these people often have the nickname of “rent a cops”
When I had hotels we used several different companies over the years and some are definitely far worse than others
Maybe if they had usual actual real police like the other states they wouldn’t have these issues.

SA is also using ADF.

Had a double take when I saw NSW recording 14 more positives. All are travellers in quarantine. Nothing to see there.

We also use a temping agency to outsource our admin tasks, like reception. We have used several different companies over the years and some are definitely far worse than others.

So I guess this could apply to any industry, agency really. Even within agencies there could be better performing staff and less well disciplined staff.

As has NSW
To the best of my knowledge Victoria were the only state to go down the path of using Private security firms.
There will be a federal enquiry into I’d imagine so it will all come out in the wash I suppose

Thanks for that info - I have just been having a look on the internet but couldn’t find anything. So that gives a point of difference.

Absolutely. Probably a few bad eggs unfortunately which would no doubt hurt their companies reputation. Dan mentioned in his presser yesterday that one of the outbreaks was due to the possible sharing of a cigarette lighter between security and infected guests in quarantine. Something that I’m sure Police or ADF personnel wouldn’t have allowed to happen

Another theory from the experts:

So, one State has some more cases, they have a Labor Premier and also have by far the best coffee, cafe and restaurants in the country.

All other States including Liberal run States have less great food and also less detected cases.

Is this somehow linked?

My theory: Victoria was just unlucky this time. Tasmania has had an outbreak too.

The world has a plentiful supply of idiots: anyone who has watched a television programme called The News will know this.

So, any other State or Territory could be next if a group(s) of idiots decide, well, to be idiots...

And, apparently sharing an Uber to and / or from work. If it comes to saving money (with your mate at work), it would be tempting, especially if they are temporary employees. I think everyone will take copious notes from Vic's experience as the number of original spreaders are few. They took it home and it went wild from there (another 73 overnight last night). There but for luck this could have happened elsewhere.

Originally in SYD, there were some very dubious activities going into and during the hotel quarantine.

Dan has already launched an independent judicial enquiry into what went wrong at those two hotels.

I have personally swabbed quite a lot of babies and toddlers. All under 5 in NSW must be seen by a Dr.
In a scale of unpleasant things for little ones it seems to be about the same IME as having an Otoscope inserted, requires a lot of parental cooperation and firm swaddling.

In laypersons' terms what are you trying to do when swabbing adults' noses, is it something like collect as many particles as possible from as far as the swab will reach and turn the swab around 360° or something? My +1 has had two tests, the first was excruciating (caused a runny nose the next day) and the second was far milder.

Victoria‘s number today is 73 I think

3 from hotel quarantine
9 from known clusters
19 from routine testing
42 under investigation
That’s manageable. I was thinking eventually there might be a doubling etc.

I’m not sure luck plays into it much. There Have been some basic mistakes made in most states but generally those were early days when not much was really known.
