3 new local cases Qld. Partner of check in agent + 2 others with apparently lots of exposure sites.

After this weeks hysterical performance from QLD I could pay good money to be a fly on the wall for that meeting..... actually maybe not.... I oscillate wildly from being enthralled by the depths of which we have plunged to just wanting to be on another planet!!
Noosa and surrounds released but not Brisbane and the islands.

Ugh I hope this doesn’t mean our lockdown is extended :(

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says contact tracers for Brisbane and Moreton Bay need another 24 hours before lockdown ends for those LGAs after three new locally acquired cases are detected.

KEY EVENT

Lockdown continues for Brisbane and Moreton Bay LGAs

The lockdown will lift in Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Townsville. There will be restrictions that continue to apply. Those restrictions will be in place for the next two weeks.
Lockdown will continue for 24 hours in Brisbane LGA and Moreton Bay LGA.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk:

"Secondly, because our contact tracers need that extra time, we need another 24 hours. So I'm really asking people in the Brisbane City Council and Moreton Bay local government areas, the lockdown will continue for 24 hours."
"Now we will come back early tomorrow morning, once our contact tracers get on top of this and we will look at the case numbers overnight. I want to thank everyone for doing the right thing but as you can see, we've just got a situation at the moment that has just come in and we really need to give the people, our contact tracers, the time to do that."

Three locally acquired cases in Qld, Premier says

Two are a mother and daughter in Carindale. They've been out and about in Brisbane.

The other is the partner of yesterday's case.
(ie Qatar worker)

See below to see where Carindale is:

For anybody who knows Brisbane this is really weird - why would you lift the lockdown in Ipswich and Logan but not Brisbane?

Carindale is very close to Logan and lots of people travel between them.

Are you suggesting that restrictions are in any way logical? They sure aren't in SA right now.

So evidently the Qatar Worker's partner (also works at the airport) is now believed to be the initial (or earlier) case in that cluster.

One new Queensland COVID case is linked to airline worker

One is the partner of the case who worked at the Qatar airline counter. The airline worker is the index (first) case.
"So he has acquired it at the airport and then given it to his partner," Dr Young said.
"I have the whole genome sequence result on the lady and she has the Delta variant."

As more people become vaccinated then the need for zeros is more a sign that we still aren't moving forward and I am more concerned with the states reactions to non zeros than the virus itself.

Don’t sweat our wonderfully intelligent state premiers & PM are meeting at National Cabinet right now and number 1 on the agenda is vaccination thresholds to be met to stop lockdowns and borders going up and down like yo yo’s.

I’m sure it will be a constructive, intelligent discussion and I look forward to a sensible consensus from our leaders to be announced shortly.

It will be interesting if NSW doesn't follow (Gladys has said she is happy with the current cap)... and then whether NSW has a say in who can come

Eg if they agree to cut by 80%, NSW goes down to 600, but NSW says the other 2400 can still come if they NSW residents.

Having such a lob-sided HQ system is causing problems and these cuts will make it worse, as VIC and QLD residents come in through quarantine in Sydney but then can't get home because of border restrictions (eg compassionate cases and now there's a story about a normal traveller who can't get a flight to BNE as they were all cancelled).

This will only get worse if PER/MEL/BNE caps are reduced. Shout out to ADL who have also said they're fine with the current caps.

Most of whom aren’t Sth Aussies but I have absolutely no data to back that up 😂

...and how do you open Redlands when Carindale is right next door (used to live in Cleveland, nearest shopping centre with larger retail (eg Myers) was Carindale).
