Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

How much risk is there really by meeting outside in a group in the open air?

It might not be in the spirit of the restrictions but if these people are meeting out in the open then at least it means they are not meeting in their homes.

And it is the mostly young people there who are not yet vaccinated, and tend to feel that they do not need to be.

Please don’t tar all young people with the same brush there are many absolutely desperate to be vaccinated.

Anyway, more on topic... 27 mins until the NSW lockdown update from Gladys

It is clearly not exercise.

Except for the group at front of shot (who may be meeting up to exercise) the others in towels are clearly exiting from a swim or preparing to swim, others packing up from a swim, people walking etc. Doeent look at all like the backpacker beach parties last xmas. If its widespreed we will see video footage.

Whilst you may want to see masks, in an outdoor setting where most are exercising and swimming its not problematic if you dont.

When i walked up to cafe yesterday arvo before restrictions came in, id say 90% were wearing masks on street, even though didnt need to pop them on until you head inside a shop.

But when i walked Bay Run last night, i only saw one or two masks on dog walkers, all the cyclists and joggers were unmasked. Unless forced to most wont wear a mask to exercise outdoors, as unlike Victoria its never been required here.

NSW:

29 new cases, many outside the locked down LGAs

NSW Premier foreshadows broader restrictions and lockdowns with discussions occurring throughout today.

Crisis cabinet meeting this afternoon.

Contact tracing has not been able to keep up with the numbers, virus has already on-transmitted by the time NSW Health get to the case.

Dr Chant implementing rings approach for workplace cluster at Great Ocean Foods to try and get ahead of this new outbreak.

Many new venues and workplaces added to exposure list, outside the lockdown area.

NSW Health are mopping up chains of transmission that they had not been tracking which is concerning them. NSW Health also reiterated the lockdown rules for those who are confused by the rules.

Also they have recognised their way of reporting numbers is confusing and now will be only daily. Phew!

That actually a high number for NSW, its rarely above 2. But i diagree about focussing on it, we dont need to import anxiety.
Not sure what planet your on mate, but 4 ppl in hospital for such devastating virus is an extremely low number.

Anxiety my friend would be focusing on the 20, 30 or more ppl with headaches, sore throats or some other minor symptoms & closing down a million ppl.

2 a lower number yes, so is 4.

Whole of Sydney will be in lockdown by the end of the weekend unfortunately

I suspect you may be right unfortunately :(

VIC contact tracers are now assisting NSW Heath as well, the numbers are just too big with all the exposure sites.

Yep, and it seems to have got out into the other regions. The unlinked cases have spiked and I fear it’s starting to get away from them. Hopefully just a hard lockdown for a week or two to get them back on track

1 new quarantining primary close contact in Vic

Details on that case:

One new community transfer case in Victoria reported overnight. Linked to the current Southbank outbreak and is a household contact taking the total outbreak to 12.
This person was a primary close contact and was in quarantine throughout the infectious period so there are no further exposure sites have been added.
There are now 146 primary close contacts with that Kings Park apartment complex in Southbank.

I wonder if he is an interstate FIFO or not.

On that site, he's highly unlikely to be anything else, although he could be living in Darwin.
At least the conditions for quarantine are good. No-one will be sneaking out for a pizza!

Another damning indictment on Queensland’s HQ program - this guys should never have been in HQ anyway....

NT case likely caught COVID in hotel quarantine

NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the man travelled from Bendigo in Victoria on June 7.

He was directed to quarantine in Queensland and was sent to a hotel. Mr Gunner said it was highly likely he caught the virus in hotel quarantine.

The man was told the hotel in Brisbane was a likely exposure site, and immediately got tested.

Everyone on the mine went into isolation.

Its low globally but high for Sydney. During Northern Beaches there were no hospitalisations. During Crossroads cluster only 2.

We are used to seeing 1 or 2 all international arrivals, the only time there were 4 or more hospitalisations for local cases before was right back at the beginning with Ruby Princess and The Nursing homes.

So focussing on how numbers have doubled is not healthy! We shoudl be focussing on physical distancing, avoiding exposure sites and getting vaccinated. Dwelling on people in hospital who likely have comorbidities helps no one.

Anxiety my friend would be focusing on the 20, 30 or more ppl with headaches, sore throats or some other minor symptoms & closing down a million ppl.

Actually majority of cases have been found through contract tracing and are asymptomatic. Im not worried at all, seems this current cluster is causing much more anxiety outside NSW than in.

Ive just come back from supermarket (in one of the restricted but not locked down LGAs) everyone was masked even kids, but no one was worried. Mince was a little low as was toilet paper, but shelves hadnt been stripped bare etc like last year. People are mostly calmly following the restrictions,

My hairdressers daughter works at Coles and was monitoring the self serve checkout, she came over for a chat whilst I scanned my shopping. She told me they took the bulk of the premium brand toilet paper (Quilton, Sorbent, Klenex) off the shelf (plenty out back) to use possible panic buying as opportunityy to shift the cheaper brands which havent been selling. I thought that was hilarious!

Yep, and it seems to have got out into the other regions.

Cant seen any cases reported in regional areas.

Yes there are cases in suburbs outside the restricted LGAs, but this was the case well before today. The biggest exposure event is the West Hoxton Birthday Party and that was in South West Sydney (Liverpool LGA) yet peopel who live there are free to go anywhere, whilst Canada Bay has zero cases but has movement retstricted to metro Sydney.

Outside of Waverly and Woolhara the other burbs with more than 1 case are mostly in the South and South West.

Manly Coles was basically stripped bare of everything.... no TP, tinned food, pasta and rice were all smashed... and it’s not even in a hotspot location.

I think some people clearly think a wider lockdown might be on the cards and stocking up.

A second press conference in NSW. Quite possibly further strictions.
