My contract is running out this month, which I've also dropped my phone way too many times now, with both sides of screen now cracked!

So even more of an excuse to upgrade from my SG6.

Decided to do a poll on both service quality in AU, as well as use overseas to findout which provider could be better to change to / stay with.

I'm Melb metro, currently with Telstra. But the costs are more then I like.

I’ve had no problems with Optus for the last decade; but my usage is all suburban.
All AU providers suck overseas, you’re better to just ignore them & get a temp SIM for OS use IMHO ...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Telstra, as until very recently, none of the others had much mobile coverage outside Tas metro areas (where i live and travel around), plus included o/s calls in my Biz plan.

I come off contract in 2 months and cost will drop markedly, making competitors much less attractive.

Vodafone. Brilliant for what I need. In Australia I've got more minutes than I need for calling a bunch of OS countries (which I need for work). When travelling OS it costs an extra $5/day to use my phone like I am at home.

I can't be bothered with messing about with local SIMs. Means I need to have the hassle of diverting my local number.

Had been with Exetel/Optus for years. But recent deterioration in service - dropping SMSs (eg hitting resend 2-3 times to get a 2FA PIN) plus massive and opaque roaming charges saw Mrs C and I move to Vodafone. Instant SMSs, ability to share data with each other, great service from in-store peeps in their Elizabeth Street store and better reception at home (by the Bay) and work (western suburbs). Win-win. Also looking forward to their $5/day roaming charge when OS. Whilst we both have dual sim phones, overseas sims are not worth it for short trips away (we have Vodafone NL sims for use in the EU .when it's a 3-week or so trip).

TPG (Vodafone) on a dual SIM Android in Australia.
Flexiroam or a local SIM overseas for data.

+1 for vodafone. All the countries I visit are covered by $5 roaming. It's so nice to continue using my phone the same as if I was home.

I had bad results on Voda in Melbourne CBD which is why I switched to Telstra a few years ago. Maybe better now but it seemed like their coverage wasn't as good, many times would just lose signal inside buildings or down laneways.

Vodafone coverage is very good these days (and I was with them when it wasn't - a few years back). Apparently Telstra has better coverage in out back Oz, for example Charleville Qld where only Telstra operates. Overseas the $5 a day roaming (phone and data) is as good as the local provider and I have had no problems all over Asia. I usually rely on local free WiFi overseas for my laptop but recently when I was in Hong Kong I had problems logging on to the (4 star) hotel's WiFi so switched on my Oz Vodafone "pocketWiFi" ($5 a day OS) and 30 seconds later I was on-line.

I did have Vodafone but dreadful coverage and drop outs when in coverage means I won’t go back. We use the Optus $10 a day travel pack.

The $X/day roaming packs might be convenient but they never beat a good local SIM which usually only takes 10 minutes or so to obtain.

Different if you need to be contactable while OS I guess but for data use abroad local SIMs win every time.

Agree re cost but like being easily contactable.

Vodafone but check if your region qualifies for the $5 per day as Abu Dhabi doesn't and hubby got a $170 bill for 2hrs in the lounge.

If staying somewhere 7+ days, I like local sims. Sim Corner sims have been good for us. I take a spare phone so take 2 phones and run one as a hotspot.

Yeah. Same for Optus. Told MrP not to use his phone unless it was wifi.

Optus for me for the last 20+ years. Plan is not the cheapest, but includes unlimited global roaming with all calls, texts, and 10Gb of international data per month. (50Gb of local data, and shared between all devices on the account). Effectively totally seamless use in Oz or OS.

Vodafone regional coverage has also improved a lot. However, if that is important to you, Telstra is the go still.

You may be intending to stick with Samsung but FYI the new iPhone range is being released middle of Sept. We're waiting to see what's on offer before we take out new contracts

It may take 10 minutes once you're at the place-of-purchase, but it takes considerably longer than 10 minutes if you include getting there!
I think it depends on how long you're wherever you're going, just for the sake of convenience I'd be happy with $5/day as opposed to hunting down a SIM for maybe up to a week.

I was with Telstra for just on 30 years the last 5 buying the travel packs. When they changed the zones and the prices doubled it started to get a bit ridiculous. I went across to Optus, $105 a month and almost unlimited call from/to many countries O/S. it saves me hundreds of dollars over Telstra.

Depends where you're going I guess, but mobile phone shops are everywhere in most cities these days. Turns out the locals use them too!

You can also get them at the airport a lot of the time, sometimes even from vending machine.
