Australian international air show 3 mar 2023 AVV

Traffic disaster. Was on 9 news. Was reading a post on my Facebook feed, someone left Melbourne suburbs 730am. Entered gates at 12.30.

Not sure what the issue is, certainly not the first airshow and usually the crowds are always big.

Went well for me. Train at 8am and shuttle service coach seamless. Coming back as well very easy. 45 minutes show to Melbourne Southern Cross. Great show as well. It was very busy.

Seems like the lesson is don’t drive. I did the vline once, was all very simple and didn’t cost much. Especially if your coming from the CBD.

I went on Thursday and knew that the public days would be absolute hell.

Driving out was quite busy and the queue to enter the car park started about a kilometre away.
Whilst it was quickly cleared, the traffic was nothing like it was going to be later in the week.

Got to see lots of planes and exhibits so very happy. The Sth Korean jets were amazing.

Got to sit in the Gold stand without it being full which was good.

Can get it from Southern Cross in advance for 15 dollars return.

Indeed, highlight was the S.Koreans...crazy & amazing.

Traffic already backed up to Point Cook. Doubt it will move any faster today vs yesterday.

Leave the queue and drive to Lara or Corio. Park at train station and be there in less than 45 mins. From arriving at Lara station to being INSIDE the ground including all queues and bag ticket checks took 25 minutes.

Some comments yesterday that many passengers travelling to the Spirit of Tasmania missed its 1030am departure due to being stuck in that traffic. Lucky today its a 7pm sailing.

The issue which holds up the traffic is they only have one entrance at the airshow gate itself, for each traffic direction, Geelong and Melbourne entry. They need to have multiple gates and fill up multiple parking zones at the same time, not everyone single file into one entrance, going to the same parking area slowly.

I recall Avalon East was a airport used previously, perhaps use that at the same time filling up car parking.

Alas, I missed the opportunity to go during the week this year 😔
