Australian Cricket Season 2025-26 (Ashes)

I was so looking fwd to Mathew Hayden running around the oval naked! Looking less likely now. Come on Australia! Protect us from this outrage!

Edit: bugg**. Well played Root.

Finally, some anti-BazBall and proper test cricket temperament shown.

Remember this guy?

Another Uni player who played for Australia.

He rated the most difficult player to bowl to was Martin Crowe. Said it was like he had a double width bat. He caught up with him years later and asked him why he always got hit for six. Crowe responded that he thought May was the most difficult bowler he'd faced so he blasted the ball hoping they'd change the bowler. Tim and MrP played together in the A Grade district for the Blacks when MRP was captain. They would drive Hookes crazy as he couldn't pick MrPs swing and he couldn't pick Tim's spin.

He played with Warne and roomed with him. He described Warne as the sort of person who would walk into a crowded room anywhere in the world and the crowds would part for him. He lived hard, not necessarily on substance abuse at all, just hard.

The most admired and respected players and men? Steve Waugh. Who does such wonderful things for people and communities most of which is not in the media. Seemed truly impressed with the man and his principles. Warne never forgave him for dropping him. Which he said wasn't fair. And Rahul Dravid. He likewise does wonderful things we never hear about.

His bunnies? Matthew Hayden and Allan Border.

When he left cricket May set up the ACA to which most former first class cricketers belong. They run health assessments every year as part of the membership with a special emphasis on skin cancer. He lives in USA and flies to SA frequently for his parents. Health not the best.

The documentary post retirement in India that Steve Waugh did have a big heart and was generous to those he liked. But it also shows that Ian Chappell is probably right in his criticism of SW saying he was selfish. I can't find free copy of this documentary anywhere but only a short clip on you tube. But on SW's website you can view the story of his book which you can buy and photographic exhibitions which were not free. Chappell called him selfish.

Does Chappell say that he is selfish in everyday life? Being selfish when playing cricket doesn't surprise me, I also read that Shane Warne never forgave him for dropping him.

There is no doubting what he has done of the field, he has a lot of admiration for that.

Interesting list when searching most selfish cricketers, I would have thought Boycott would have been right up there.. :)

We'll have to ask mr @Pushka as to what makes a great cricketer, being selfish surely has to be up there. :)

Green, another duck, geez, what do people see in this guy?

Maybe his payday from hit and giggle has clouded his thinking...... :(

Quite ironic that the player that wasn't going play is the top scorer so far.....

Grew. The Golden child

Youngest in the team selected on what basis ?

Solid performance?
Potential !
Saviour of Aussie cricket with an ageing team ?

Proof it’s harder to get out of the team than in it
No wonder lyons was “filthy” about non-selection

Seriously, no one has rights to a place in the team even when they think they do

5/233 steady and unspectacular

The selectors have their favorites. First picked and last out. It’s always a topic of discussion at cricket gatherings where some players at least have played professional cricket.

Last night we sat next to an English man who was a guest. He arrived 2 days ago and is going to all three cricket matches. Told him it was going to be 40 tomorrow. He looked rather ill at the prospect. Told him hat, water water water and sunscreen. Much of the spectator area in general is in the sun, all day. Horrible. Go Carey.

Yes I fail to understand why he’s in the team and why all the hype about him.
