Well
I had placeholder flights for Ashes dates in Brissy, Melbourne and the home test

Holy smoke
The hotel costs are extortionate

So I’m sussing out Youth Hostel options

Also Bangladesh will be along later on 2026 and CA are looking to hold the Tests in Darwin Mackay Cairns or Townsville which would mean the 2026/27 season would bypass the Gabba

I'm going to Perth (and Sydney). As of today, the only Hilton with rooms was Northbridge and they want $850 pr night. Parmelia Hilton was offering a Diamond Guarantee at over $1150. That's what I've paid for a 4 night booking done the day the match dates were published. A lot of the English will be coming.

I've got a 10-man box at the Gabba, and I reckon the price has gone up by over $10k on the same box from 2021
A family tradition for me and the 5 sons plus 4 mates. Booked the accommodation at the start of the year just get something at a decent price
Mercure KGS

Having both coughmins and now Hazlewood out of the bowling attack for the first Test will make matters a bit 'more interesting'. Dogget will most likely come into the team. I really know very little about him.

Hamstring injuries take a long time to heal....I suspect HW will be out for the entire Ashes series! Boland will play all 5 test matches!

Not here, but another very dodgy pitch in India and the Indians have come unstuck, needing 123 or so in the last innings they were bowled out for 93. South Africa win by 30 runs. When will the Indian board realise that fixing pitches can also go against you....
And the dead silence when SA won was priceless.

Just appalling that CA have moved first test to Perth, presumably for greed of gate takings, instead of traditional Gabba event. Most players disagree with the decision it seems. Give the Poms a small psychological advantage in first test.

Perth is usually where most visiting teams come unstuck in the old days because of the fast paced pitch. Don't know what it's like now and it's been very wet over there and not as hot as previously.

going to be an interesting afternoon!
Has proven to be so , with England bowled out cheaply (it seemed at the time) after some poor shot selection by the middle to lower order in particular, but Australia currently 4/41 after tea, in their 20th over faced. Proving the truism that you can only judge a pitch after both teams have batted, and Labuschagne being forced into opening to cover for Khawaja supporting that truth is stranger than fiction

Starc awesome, was concerned about our bowling absences, but he was awesome. Shame he'll have to bow for most of tomorrow now as well.
Usman situation very odd. He certainly shouldnt have a mortgage on a spot like he thinks he has.
Not much intent from the AU bats compared with England who at least scored as wickets fell.
Travis batting like its the back yard at mum's.
Marnus after a blazing domestic start again batting like he's scared to score, same as last 2 years at Test level.
Jeez......

Said to have experienced back stiffness/spasms
Aged far beyond the historic age of batters (except Bradman…)
But we have an ageing team and it gets no better even if the most consistent shield player from last year makes his debut at 31 and zeros out with a peg leg before thus showing
he don’t “Weather all’d”

I recalled last night that my mum loved Khawaja as a player. She died 10 years ago next month. Rather told us he was long past his best by date..

Who replaces him? The last couple of years when they knew Warner was going to retire, it seemed to be a bit random, picking players out of position, some not given a fair go and so on. Too much hit and giggle? Dunno, certaintly the selectors need to cop some flack. I guess they had Will Pucovski penciled in as a sure thing, pity he has/had issues.
