While I am trying to update individual airline delays or cancellations in that series of threads elsewhere on AFF, at least in SYD (strike this morning 0700 - 0900) and MEL (0500 - 0700 hours), the strike by Australian Border Force staff appears to be having minimal effect on timeliness of airline departures.

However we do not have a full picture for SYD as there are many departures for international airports in the 0900 to 0959 and 1000 to 1059 hours so only then would delays in passenger processing result in late aircraft departures.

The flight arrivals and departures data does not by itself disclose what if any delays arriving or departing passengers are facing.

ABF management are apparently manning posts normally occupied by 'frontline' ABF staff.

There will be multiple strikes by ABF staff over coming days unless this long running wages dispute is solved. As always, the Federal Government would be concerned that too generous an offer would put the Federal Budget further in the red.

It didn't seem to bother Adelaide too much this morning. My grand-daughter was on SQ278 (ADL-SIN) and it departed only 10 mins behind schedule. Can't have been all that bad.

Does anyone have experience of any delay in processing INCOMING passengers? I have a flight scheduled to arrive five minutes before 9pm on a 9pm - 11pm strike evening in Melbourne

How long is this expected to go on? If I have only 2 hrs transit time at SYD to get to QF1 is it worthwhile calling QF and asking to switch to an earlier flight BNE-SYD? Hopefully the morning delays wont continue into the rest of the day..

Worst case scenario is more FLounge time :)

I heard a rumour that someone saw an immigrant so Australian Border Force storm troopers may be send in later in the week to quell the striking Border Force workforce! (Flying out on Friday. Can't wait.)

(although now that TA isn't having a weekly security scare, maybe just a rumour.)

Very long queues reported on the news at Syd with another walkout due to start at 7pm till 9pm tonight. Passengers are being advised to turn up early, but unfortunately the airlines are not opening their check in desks any earlier which is not very helpful.

I went out at about 6am today and they had roped off all the passport facial recognition screens

Clearly the machines were on strike too!

I read their main gripe is over allowances and benefits being dropped - but yet to see what these benefits materially are/were in clear terms - and until I do have no sympathy for them.

Are they expected to be striking tomorrow morning? (SYD, QF26 arrival)

Got through SYD this morning with no issues. (If I was still using my old passport I'd still be in line) There were still uncollected bags from 138 when the 26 bags started coming out.

Will be travelling this weekend during the planned strike time in Sydney. What's the effect of the strike seen so far? (esp. for international arrival).

If missing connecting flight due to immigration/customs, I assume Qantas will put pax to the next available flight?
