The RBA doesnt make or issue passports, they just set the official interest rate.

Note Printing Australia makes the passports, wholly owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of Australia

The blank polymers for the notes are made by CCL Secure who makes polymers for note making for lots of other countries

CCL Secure used to be a subsidiary of the RBA in a different name Securency and in collaboration with a plastics company developed the polymer technology. It is now owned by the Canadians

In 2018 Securency was fined millions in a bribery scandal surrounding its contract with the Malaysians for supply of the polymers.

Passports are indexed annually, so it should not be a surprise there is an increase.

What a rip. My new passport is so darkly printed the pages are difficult to read and the stitching is coming undone already (less than 6 months use). But somehow that's my problem.

Between state drivers licenses/ID, your TFN, myID, Medicare, etc anyone who thinks we don't have an in effect national ID system is crazy.

Totally agree. My thoughts were many however don't! Never please the masses. However the passport cost as is ..well.its ridiculous.

Yeah when I got mine recently..my first ....I thought it rather poor quality.....when I compare to my UK passport ..which had its own "objectors" when they pulled from EU.

My current passport barely has an empty page! I just applied for a new passport, which is expected to arrive around December 30th. With so many countries where Australians can now, or soon. use E-gates, there probably won't be nearly as many stamps in the new book. At least I saved myself $10! (At the cost of 8 months.)
