Qantas to Launch Sydney - Cape Town Flights

A great addition to the route network IMHO (always wondered why they didn't fly it). CR availability to JNB is rare so hopefully this will see a few more seats available. Only downside I see is the 0915 departure time. I understand the MCT at SYD, dom to int is 90 minutes which means for me, flying in on the first flight of the day from CFS and arriving in AYD at 0750 isn't going to work unless QF allow it to be booked on a through ticket. Most likely going to require an overnight stop in SYD. Same for PAX from many other regional towns.

Even if the flights from Coffs Harbour gave 90 minutes (thus satisfying the minimum connecting time requirement), you'd be unwise to do this as the intra NSW rural city and town flights can be very unreliable, whether QantasLink or Rex. Far better to stay overnight in Sydney.

Whilst early-ish departures from SYD are not my favourite thing as I live outside of the metropolitan area, I quite like the 2:40pm arrival time into Cape Town.

I've done QF63 a couple of times before and you tend to feel a bit exhausted arriving into JNB at the equivalent of 2am Sydney time (when I last took it arriving at ~4pm Joburg time), so arriving (just) at what is equivalent to the correct side of midnight in Sydney time would make a difference.

Another benefit too is that the N2 freeway from Cape Town Airport has a reputation for criminal incidents (lots of stories like this) so a mid-afternoon arrival time avoiding any chance of travel after sunset is a good thing.
