Heading to Auckland for a weekend in a couple of weeks time.

Will be staying at a hotel in Albert Street near the Sky Tower.

I know a lot of AFFers frequent AKL, so am after some recommendations for good restaurants/eateries within no more than 5-10 mins walking distance from the Sky Tower. No cuisine in specific just not super expensive.

Fire away!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming Ima definitely seems like a front runner so far.

Wildfire restaurant at the entrance to the Viaduct area...Brazilian BBQ...better than Brazil itself. Been there 6 or 7 times. Actually flew from BNE-AKL on EK one Friday and returned on the Saturday just to take mrseric to dinner
Wildfire Restauarant

Also importantly do they take amex?

IIRC i think I used my amex. Its a pretty big concern and would be very surprised if they didn't. You will absoulutly enjoy it.

There is also a Belgium place up Queen Street and into Vulcan Lane which does very nice stuff ( 1 metre long German style sausage and mash ) plus fantastic Mussels as a house specialty. Have a choice go... for the Brazilian. IMHO

Although someway away (free shuttle), the seafood buffet at the Langham on Friday nights used to be very good for food and value, if it's still on offer.

Peter Gordon's sky tower restaurant (Sugar Club is very good, the other one (Orbit) is ok and views at dusk are excellent. The Chinese upstairs near the bridge to the hotel from the ST complex is excellent.

Winery restaurants on Waheke Island are excellent.

Others, Clooney and Botswana Butchery are also good.

I think I recall* drinking way too much with another AFFer there one weekend.

*Details are definitely hazy, but apparently it was a great night.

Masu at Sky City Grand is nice. Soul and Mecca down at the Viaduct are also ok, although will be very cool this time of year.

+ 1 for Euro if looking for higher end. We like also like Depot, very close to where you're staying, for casual dining - good food and a fun vibe.

Botswana Butchery.
They do a great share lamb dish. You need a big appetite though
