Hi I'm flying emirates international a380 (Yay!) from auckland departing at 18:00. I need to get to Auckland from Queenstown first - direct flights flying airnz arrive in Auckland at 17:00 - does that leave me enough time to change flights? The earlier airnz direct flight gets into Auckland at 14:00 - four hours seems a while to wait...

Thanks!

Hi joe7238, Welcome to AFF :D

One hour is certainly not enough time. It's a 10 minute walk or bus trip; you still have to check-in, get through emigration and security. Finally, the Emirates flight will be boarding around 16:15.

More than that, if you have luggage to check, that needs to be at the check-in counter by 3:30pm! (Don?t Miss Your Flight | Essential Information | Plan & Book | Emirates)

Would you rather risk missing the A380 and pony up for another fare (assuming there is another flight that night to your destination) because Emirates aren't going to protect your booking if you are a no-show?

Your call, but I'd certainly be plumping for the earlier flight. That way, it allows for delays out of ZQN, after picking up your bags you can have a leisurely walk between terminals following the yelllow line and your aren't worried about missing the next flight, running like a crazy person...

1 hour is NOT enough time to transfer, especially if you have even a minor delay getting to Auckland. One thing I've learned about international air travel is that you get to enjoy wandering around airports while waiting for flights - thats if you do not have lounge access!

Are those times correct? The flight leaves at 18:00 and you need to check-in 2:30 hours and start boarding 1:45 hours before the flight?

The times were wrong but the context is correct.

OP was looking to land in AKL at 17:00 on a domestic flight to catch an 18:00 international flight.

If it was ZQN, safest is to take the earliest flight of the day that you can afford. Even safer, a day before.

But if you are a risk rider like I am ;), then still allowing 3 hrs at least between ZQN-AKL arriving and your A380 flight departing is the best way to go.

Luckily, the OP is flying NZ rather than QF or JQ (i.e. a lot more options, unless ZQN gets closed for the day )
