It's been a while since I have been to the BME lounge - has it improved? From memory, key in the 'secret number', up the rickety stairs, usually no seats available, biscuits in packets a la motel mode, and maybe a beverage in the fridge if you are lucky. I know it is regional but it is very underwhelming, I mostly choose to sit out with the masses

Not used a regional lounge, but how hard would it be to replace the urn and Nescafe 43 with an actual coffee machine like the one in ADL? Select your preference and enjoy! (Not quite the barista style of SYD International, but a *hell* of a lot better than Blend 43.)

For a payment of $855 (joining fee and annual fee), I guess maybe the OP thought it was deserving to get more for that amount.
OP, you are lucky, just you wait, till you meet the coffee machine or maybe you have been introduced to the new (to me) fangled coffee machine they have in the upscale ADL/MEL/SYD QP... you need a science degree to be able to operate the thing, or even a professorship.
I stood there for 10 mins, nearly going to give up trying to get a cup of coffee from the machine, pressed every button, nothing, pressed till the "service" button lit up like a Christmas tree, in the end, I found out where I went wrong.
You have to press the type of coffee (selection) button quite hard for it to dispense the goo, and then, press the hot water button.
Mmm, marvellous.
In the end though, if I lived in LST or GLT, maybe I would have expected more for my $855. Less if you are AFFGold.

For Archphoto, who taught you the special magic of the treatment needed for the coffee machine at ADL airport to dispense to you the coffee you desired, now I know of course, but it was quite a while for me to understand how to run the machine till she/he/it purred out the goo.
Not trying to be rude of funny or weird, sorry if it seems like this.
Did you know straight from the start how to get the goo flowing?
I did see a few of the QP girls floating around, but didn't dare ask them how to get the goo flowing, goo is how I describe the mix of coffee prior to the addition of hot water, when it falls into the cup.

I've used these before (various lounges and hotels around the world), so had experience - but if I hadn't been able to get it working, you can bet your bottom dollar I'd be tracking down a QP staff member for the lowdown. I *love* my coffee and even though that machine doesn't dispense the greatest "goo", it sure as hell beats the instant c**p that gets thrown around freely at Best Western (et al) motels. ;)

Thankfully the SYD International lounge has a barista - I down as many cups as I possibly can before catching a flight; the Grinders sh*te they serve in Y deserves to be ditched even before they commence serving it. (If you're going to crow about serving "brewed coffee", at least be sure you train your staff in how to make it drinkable: burned sludge doesn't rate as "brewed coffee" in my book.)

Is the Barista in the middle, near where the DIY wine bottles are, in the middle, between the food and the window, where the Gelati is?
Re: the other thing, the coffee maker, thanks.
Ps, I know of some people who would scream blue ***der if they had to pay (they consider it a waste) the $855!
Back to the gist of the OP, for an airport that has only 4 QFlink flights a day, from and to BNE with a flight time of only 1hr5mins, I think its hard to provide the same food and drink quality and qantity as seen in a full service QP.
Best of luck to the OP, and hopefully, something/s will change in the future.

IMHO,

GLT lounge is no better or no worse than every other regional lounge.
