ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Yes Serfty that is the one. Your filing system far exceeds my IT abilities. US credit cards have been really good for running up endless AA miles for almost zero cost net of the mucking around.

Having purchased a few of the Coles Father's Day M/C, when I start using them to pay online, will there be any limit to how many I can use, say each day?

I assume you pay ATO ? ATO are very happy with money $$$ they dont refuse any amount. At one time I used 40 cards in 1 hour, but I was getting dizzy with those process

Hello Duffa I have 3 sets of payroll tax each month that go on credit cards. My Citi Prestige has been ok for this. So far all they stopped was ATO. I do try hard to give Citi some profitable business each month. The earn rate at Citi has reduced but it is still ok. I must check to see if WA and SA payroll tax offices are taking a credit card now.
Thanks Cove.
As usual you are the "go to" person on all matters ATO/SRO!

Just wondering if there is an 'Approved Payments by CC' list which earn QFF? Did our tax today, with one of us owing the taxman. CC's in use are: Amex, BW Platinum, NAB Velocity.

I wonder if anyone can confirm whether HSBC cards (in particular, HSBC Premier or Platinum) still pays the ATO, or have they stopped altogether? Thanks!Edit: it seems they're dead since 1 May 2016. Time to cut up the cards...

BW platinum runs 0.5 points per dollar so that earns QFF points for 0.84 cents per dollar (capped at 200,000 points annually).
The problem with Amex cards is the cost of points is mostly 2.9 cents based on a 0.5 points earn and the 1.45% fee. There is one Amex card that earns one point per dollar that someone posted in these 675 pages of posts which I don't have.
HSBC, NAB and ANZ seem to be all gone.

That's the American Express Velocity Escape Card, so no QFF points on that one.

I would suggest doing an Amex Velocity and Nab CC sign up to score the bonus sign on points from Velocity first rather than do one point per dollar on ATO as those points cost quite a bit more at 1.45 cents a piece. That said Virgin points are still handy.

I ran into the same dilemma as cove suggested, funnily enough came to a similar conclusion.

We are now applying for our second AMEX business platinum as we exceeded the point earn cap (375k) this year already. The $1500 annual fee is justified with 110,000 bonus points, 30,000 for referral, and 93750 extra points (2 ppd vs 1.5 ppd of $187.5k). Note this card is only good for business advertising spend.

This equates to $1500 annual fee down to $1050 after tax (company tax). Equating to 0.44c per point. Mind you that's SQ/VA/QF/EY/EK/AM points so to me their more valuable then pure VA/QF. I'd maximise this before I took 1.1c valuation on my Westpac black Amex.

Then again there's no reason you can't do both (bonii + ato spend) :)

Yes I showed that to friends and they don't need those additional points. They are doing ATO on WBC Platinum Kris Flyer and that is working well. This card is no longer issued but continues to work for many of us.

I have a few of these $100 giftcards from the coles flybuys deal. I don't have any fancy business or bas, just a normal individual taxpayer. My tax in myGov has a nice $0 balance. Am I still able to make payments into this and request a refund or just get it all refunded when I complete my tax return?

You could use them to pay your motor vehicle registration, council rates, fines, insurances, anything etc.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet (gosh this thread is long!), but I just noticed that a card purchase fee of $5 applies to the Coles Gift Mastercards.

So disappointing... I thought unfunkable was onto a winner!

Depends if you can get bonus flybuy points and extra CC points by buying at a supermarket. I can't remember the calculations but if you get enough points, it can offset the $5 activation fee for a $100 card.

Guys , please read my post properly . There was a code on ozbrgain to get the Coles virtual Prepaid card for free .
The 2nd deal is a targeted flybuy offer where the bonus flybuy points converts to Coles dollars that offsets the card purchase fee .
The virtual prepaid credit card in effect let you pay ato with MasterCard or visa and earn points (Amex not accepted for Coles prepaid MasterCard purchases) or else everybody would of been all overt that big time. I don't know if the ozbrgain code still works .

The code worked 2 days ago.

Thanks unfunkable I couldn't get the link to work when you first posted but it worked today revealing the code. I've just bought some and the code worked. I did it on my only 1:1 Visa Citi Prestige. Bought 3 now have to wait until tomorrow to buy more seems to be a security feature although Citi deny it but I don't want to make a big deal about it.
I couldn't see when this code expires. Is it tomorrow like the Fly Buys offer in store?
