ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Had my AMEX issued cards cancelled for using the "PayPal" Friends and Family to transfer money into my wife's account. Cited breach of terms and conditions no opertunity to explain or justify they said there was zero tolerance.

Wow.

How much did you send and did you only do it once?

$10K to the wife and $10K to another paypal account that I own via a trust. Plan was to use paypal to pay dividends from my Company to my Trust and my Wife. Card cancelled + another Amex I had that I had not used for this. 7 days to make full payment on both cards or get sent to a collection agency. No negotiation no appeal.

Have you all seen the Australian 20 cent coin issued in 2010 with the writing " The Australian Taxation Office Centenary 2010" and across the top "Working For All Australians".
I was lost for words.

It's the tag line on the bottom of emails from ATO staff too.

WBC Black Amex is uncapped but the earn rate per dollar is 0.75. What this means is these points cost almost 2 cents each unless you get the fee as a tax deduction. Forget the Black MasterCard as that earns zilch now.

I have a slew of quarterlies this month plus a monthly BAS. It is kind of bitter sweet.
Have Westpac Plat Kris Amex,ANZ Black Amex, Citi US,HSBC and QCU and there is plenty for each. The Westpac Black Amex is a bit expensive but I do like warehousing the points.
Citi Prestige earns zero and Amex Ultimate and Velocity Platinum are all too expensive to use for ATO.
WOWCC is limited to 2500 at a point a dollar and then half that for the rest with no capping.
BankWest is capped out until later in August when 200,000 gets cleared.

Hi cove. Far be it for me to tell the grand master about credit cards but I think you might find the ANZ Black visa better value than the Amex. 2/3 the points for the usual visa/mc surcharges makes the extra 1/3 points very expensive. I know it's not as good as the WBC kris Amex but if you don't have one of these then it's one of the few cards that still credits to kris. However as others have shown me here they are also very good value if used in VA. I recently booked Europe to Oz in F on etihad for $55 in taxes thru VA

I had better have a look at ANZ Black Visa then. That card is held by my son so I just load it to his credit limit pretty much once a month so he doesn't need to rat mum and dad's accounts too often. He flies to MEL or SYD fairly frequently. Last night he wanted to switch a domestic flight and so we logged into mum's account.....now I saw his reaction at his mum's points balance as we moved to check availability. He then mentioned the word normal in a sentence that came out like" Is that normal?"
Of course you are normal if you frequent this AFF site.

Whoa! They still have DB schemes in private companies? Or is this just a legacy component?

LOTFAP is nuts with DB schemes. The case that blows me is the NYPD - it pays out more in pensions to retired officers than in salaries to serving officers! I know of university staff there who (claim to) retire on 100% of their final salary .

As far as I'm aware defined benefits are legacy in Australia. All new positions have government mandated minimum of 9.5% super.

The companies listed there have plenty of "lifers". Some execs (current and retired) at those companies are on very good wickets... ~80% of final salary for the rest of your life as a defined benefit, then spouse gets a percentage of that when you die until they die - not bad.

100% agree with this comment. 20% of Australians are working to pay for the rest.

looks like you'd only do ANZ if you want QFF points?

non QF - 3 points/$1 spend. 3:1 SQ conversion so 1pt:$1 on ANZ AMEX for 1.45% surcharge.

Yes but with the demise of WBC black for ATO if you want to transfer to kris directly ( ie not thru the VA 1.35 reduction) the ANZ black, WBC kris (if you were lucky enough to get one before it got cut) and the St George/Bank mel/Bank SA signature seem to be the only options.
ANZ black amex $1:1 kris 1.45% fee
ANZ black visa $1:.66 kris 0.42% fee
St G Sig visa $1:.75 kris(+10%birthday bonus) 0.42% fee

The powers that be at St George tuned me down for the 60k sign on bonus so i have to wait2 more months to reapply sofor now for me ANZ atleast gets me some earn:)

Any additions to the above please feel free to add
