ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Can confirm preloading the Coles MC works - did just this with a 800k+ tax bill. My FB balance has never looked so massive. Make the most of it while you still can!
I just tried to put my Coles MC into credit but the system wouldn't let me pay any more then my current balance. How did you manage to preload?

It's as what Scr77 said - I just used BPAY to move the funds in. My bank allows 10x BPAYs of up to 20k each, so I just did that a few times and then pay the ATO in one go.

Amazingly the ATO's limit for paying via CCs is in the tens of millions!

Thanks for the heads up re putting the Coles card into credit. They had told me I couldn’t put it inro credit or they would suspend it (much like Amex doesn’t like it) so have paid to the max then recharged it back to zero to rinse and repeat. I can do a bigger payment now and just do it all in one go since my bank has a larger daily BPAY limit. Will save a lot of extra work.

Glad I recently ran down my supply of Visa1 cards. Should be able to use them for other split payments such as strata.

Oh man, that's awkward. I didn't even know that they'd suspend the card. Clearly then it's a bit of an empty threat - though I am just one data point and maybe their 'filters' haven't yet caught up.

I was initially worried because the first tranche of FB points didn't post for over 9 business days (when normal txns post to FB after 3 or so), but seems like bigger transactions get stuck in a back-end queue processor before being greenlit and being posted.

That said, the T&Cs do explictly say that business txns aren't allowed, so I'd be careful in that department...

I had same experience with delayed posting of ATO points but they posted eventually. Appeared to be the correct quantity. Going to take a punt and make some larger payments next few days. See what happens. Will report back.

I find it quite difficult to reconcile when I make higher volumes of payments (shown as individual line items on the MC), because FB seems to aggregate them in arbitrarily-determined chunks. Makes it quite annoying to ascertain whether I've truly been awarded the right amounts or not. The delayed (also with arbitrary time lags) transactions are additional spanners in the works.

I doubt it's high on their priorities list, but Coles needs to adopt Amex's style of points recording - i.e. a 1:1 for line item / pts awarded.

If they keep the current system after the handover to Citi will be much better than Citi’s current absent level of reward point detail reporting.

Kangol I felt you may be looking at this the wrong way. If you have quite a bit of ATO to pay there is a BoM card that probably has a 90,000 Kris Miles sign on for about $279.
Forget Amex issued cards as 2.9 cents per point is a pain barrier even if you can almost halve it with a tax deduction (highest marginal tax rate).
Is there any difference between the BoM card and the dragon card in terms of points for ato payments? They seem identical to me but am I missing something? Thanks for your advice.

Given that they are the same "parent company" (not sure of the correct term), I doubt there is any difference besides the branding and different state presence.

They are both offshoots of westpac to give the illusion of being a local bank.

They are the same bar name.

Bankwest's Qantas World...probably the last 'reasonable' CC standing after the dust settles.

RIP Coles MC. You will be missed.
I use the Dragon and visa1. But with so few cards to use now and if visa1is really gone the remaining catds will be hammered and also being non business cards one guesses that hammering will see them turned off too.

I thought the dragons now explicitly exclude govt charges inc. ATO; are you still successfully collecting ATO points?
