ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

A question regarding the ANZ changes...

The letter outlining the changes state that these are effective from 27 February 2016. If my card statement cycle ends around the 4th-6th March, does that mean payments prior to 27 February, say on the 10th February, will or won't earn points on ATO purchases?

I note the ATO website is under going redesign. Anyone please tell me the link to pay an individuals tax? (I am being donated a few points on my BW World M/C)

So I rang ANZ (don't worry... I didn't mention ATO payments...) and they tell me that it will be based on transaction date, not statement-closing date. So as long as transactions are made prior to 27 Feb, points will still be earned. I have a reference number for the conversation just in case.

I'd pay a couple of days prior to allow for the settlement delay.

Now that the trusty CBA Diamond has bitten the dust (RIP), I have narrowed my replacement card choice to BankWest Platinum visa (with a view to moving to World asap) and Qantas credit union plat visa.

Grateful for views from anyone who has both (Hi Cove) on the relative merits of these two cards. I'm particularly interested in getting as high a credit limit as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Yes New Chump BW Plat pays 0.75 Qantas points per dollar and the World goes 1.0 QF points per dollar.
With QCUcc my one does not like more than $10,000 a day even though I have a $25,000 limit. Next day has been ok to do some more.
We each bought a ticket to go quickly to the US for work. One of my sons was shocked that I paid but the ATO are pretty helpful in reducing that cost as they are our 49% partners this year.

Hi Cove,

Bankwest Qantas Platinum MasterCard - This card earns QFF with ATO payment ?
earn 0.75 point per $1 spent on eligible purchases

thank you in advance.

A bit expensive ... but the blue Disco QF Amex card still pays out at 1 for 1 (as at Dec) though one is paying the higher % fee.

Not sure how you can say that is "a bit expensive " when that Amex card is costing 1.45 cents per point or almost 3 times the Visa. The only advantage of the Amex is the extra points per dollar spend (but you are paying for it :) )

I think the Amex card you refer to will only pay 0.5 points per $ when used with ATO. 1 for 1 elsewhere.

"49%" as in they earn you points but they have no say in how you spend the points??!! ;-)

I think both disco and escape do currently earn the full amount. Expensive but becoming one of the last remaining options - assuming they'll close it off once we all move to these offerings. Make hay while the sun is shining.

Was just proving an update on options to people. They can make their own decisions.

As at Dec 15 Disco is paying 1 for 1.

Some honorable mentions of MC/Visa cards pulling in points at 1:1. But only, it seems, to QFF. Does anyone know of a 1:1 card with other transfer partners? I've been using WP Black for a few years but it's probably not the most economic way to go.

Yes, I can't think of any Cards off the top of my head on Visa/MC that earn 1:1 or even 0.75:1 for Virgin (and in turn Kris flyer , the best thing that's happened to the points game for Australians in a long time). A few of the lower end Amex cards pay 1:1, but with the 1.45% surcharge, makes buying them for 1.45c a bit of a waste. The three which spring to mind are the Disco, Escape and B.Acc cards. The DJ card "earns" 1:1, but it uses a different points valuation, and it's best use is for SPG.

We each have Westpac Kris Flyer Amex cards which earn 1.25 Kris Miles. This card is the best but many people churned this card and cannot get this card back as it is no longer available for new applicants.
