Good evening,

Today (17/12/14) a dear friend of mine (77 years old) was informed her mother (98 years old) passed away. My friend lives in Adelaide and her mother in England. She has asked me to find out the best way to get back to England for the funeral. Can anyone assist with the best airline that will assist with bereavement fares or the like, or even the best way economically to get a return flight from Adelaide to London. My friend is not financial enough to do this in J, so Y would be the only option.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm economically commercial ticket isn't the best because its nearing the Christmas Holidays. I can only suggest buying miles to redeem.

What airline would still have award seats available for this month especially to LHR?

When is she hoping to return?

The current fares seem to be around $3000 on Qantas, Emirates or Singapore Airlines - there are cheaper fares on QF/EK but these seem to have long layovers.

With QF, can get a flight out on Sunday evening, via Emirates codeshare/Dubai returning around end of December for about $2600.

For departing tomorrow evening, SQ have an excellent connection which departs 19:20 and arrives in London Friday morning at 07:20 for $3100 returning on 30/31 Dec.

The cheapest price is around $2800 on QF. This is leaving tomorrow and returning on 1st Jan.

I would ring QF and try to get a price. The agents are usually very helpful in circumstances like this. This isn't a time to muck around with TA's online or in person unless they are known and trusted by you. One stop on a trusted airline is the way to go here.
Best wishes.

Thanks for the info so far. I am not sure when she needs to be there, but wanted to get some info rolling now. Thanks again.

Also if ringing or doing online - beware of the long layover and/or multiple connections. One fare I saw (the cheapest) had a 21 hr layover in Dubai and 42 hr total journey time. May not be ideal!

Don't forget to look at Malaysian or United via LAX, whilst not perfect may be the best prices and only one stop if she can get to Sydney or Melbourne.

Matt

Thanks for the comments. My friend secured a fare to LHR for $2360 departing next Saturday. Thanks again.
