Apologies if this has been asked previously. I noticed when I was doing some fiddling around with the ASA that the conditions state that they are upgradeable. Is this correct?
I have also noticed that it seems harder to find FASA’s at the classic award level than for JASA. If the above is correct, could you book a JASA (at or around Classic Award level) and upgrade with points to F? How much demand is there for upgrades from J to F on a route like SYD/MEL-LAX? Is the F cabin usually full?

Most ASAs are upgradable, but you often have to ring the call centre to put a request in, otherwise its a case of "computer says no".

All "Business Class" and "Premium Economy" ASA's are upgradable.

Those economy ASA's that book into X, N, O, E, Q are not normally upgradable (X being the award fare bucket which are the really cheap ones).

My flight tomorrow on the becoming famous QF81 is the first time I've NOT had to call to request an upgrade on an ASA
