Last night SYD+1 got caught be a “helpful” staff member. Although, the machine wanted a signature. Thinking about it afterwards, there might have been an option to “Cancel” (and tap again).

Anyway, at new places I’m going to say immediately on tapping, “Wait. I want to pay in Euros” (and I’ll be saying that in Spanish).

I usually always tell the server before I tap that I want to pay in EUR. If I dont know (enough) of the local language, then I just repeatedly say "Euros euros euros euros" when the screen prompts a "Yes/No" selection.

Yes, but there’s aways that one “helpful” server….

In the UK 99% of cashiers have automatically tapped the pound button before I have had a chance to say anything.

Most terminals here in Bolivia seem to offer it after the tap. “AUD” comes up on the right and “Bs” on the left, at the bottom of the screen.
As far as I can tell, every local holding the machine has pressed Bolivianos, or now that I know it’s coming, I’m confirming that’s what I want.

I assume this is a bank mandated setting related to the Bankwest Zero Plat CC I’m using? Or is it a Mastercard network feature to offer DCC?

It’s the POS machine setting but it does seem to happen more with MC than VISA IME.

Some countries it’s rare others everywhere (eg Spain).
